DH and food

When DH is dishing out food, he always gives me the smaller of the two portions.

He tries to do it evenly, but there's usually one with a little bit more/ less - and the one with less always ends up in front of me. I've noticed this consistently over a long period.

I got upset last night being given the smaller portion. He's just done it so many times and I was starting to feel a really unhealthy resentment about it, so I told him.

He said he thought because I'm female and because I'm 'always trying to lose weight', I would have wanted the smaller one. He'd just made that assumption without asking me.

AIBU to be a bit annoyed at this as he never consulted me and it just makes me feel a bit rubbish to always be given the smaller portion, without being asked if that's what I want?

It is clear he is being a selfish greedy cunt and hoping you won't challenge him - and now you have - well done.

Why would a woman want to eat the same size dinner as a man?

StillStuckInTheShed · 07/02/2024 22:54

Its down to muscle mass. Men, regardless of age, weight or height have more muscle mass than women. (Unless she's a bodybuilder) more muscle mass equals a higher volume of calorific needs.

Whereas women have a higher fat reserve and lower metabolism which equals a lower calorific need.

If my DH was to serve himself a large glass of wine and me a small glass, then we would have a massive problem.
Food however - different matter. He's tall and slim and eats like a horse and I'm short and fat and can't eat half his portion!

StillStuckInTheShed · 07/02/2024 23:01

Also. Is he generally serving you a substantial enough plate of food. As in, if you ate what you were given wouldn't be hungry anymore. Or is he not serving you enough at all so you eat it and remain hungry?

OP already said her caloric need is greater than her husband's.

LTB. It's the only solution.

Whoever cooks here dishes up. I always give DP more (he’s 6ft 5 to my 5ft 6) and he always gives us equal portions which means I leave some.
