To hate it being called pancake tuesday

Just that really, it's shrove Tuesday it is the traditional feast day before the start of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Lent – the 40 days leading up to Easter – was traditionally a time of fasting

As a serious Catholic family, we say both Shrove Tuesday and Pancake day. I don’t worry about that. What bothers me is calling the day before Easter Day Easter Saturday when it should be Holy Saturday.

@Hayliebells I never said I hate people that call it pancake tuesday.
I don't hate anyone, that was a big reach 🤔

Edited

Both your thread title and @Hayliebells 's response refer to hating the act of calling it pancake Tuesday.

ManyATrueWord · 07/02/2024 19:27

It's Jif Lemon day!

BestBadger · 07/02/2024 19:27

It's not like Christians (or any of the monotheists) to hate something they disagree with.

Anyway, Tuesday is the day named in recognition of the God Tyr. A day to reflect on the sacrifice he made in giving up his hand to bind the wolf that would end the world.

VestaTilley · 07/02/2024 19:29

Agree, it’s always Shrove Tuesday in this house.

A prize to whoever else knows the name of the day before!

St. Pancake day.

No, St Pancake Tuesday. 😂

Pancake party.

But why wait until Shrove Tuesday (and mark the day) to have a pancake party, why not mid January or on a Thursday ?

Is that Maundy Monday or something?

ElizaMulvil · 07/02/2024 19:31

Pancake Tuesday (Manchester). Maybe it's a northern thing or irish influence? Never heard of Pancake Day!,

TyrannasaurusJex · 07/02/2024 19:33

I enjoy pancakes.
I do not enjoy Jesus.
Ergo, pancake day.
(NOT 'pancake Tuesday', only a ruddy psychopath would call it that)

scrambledeggsandbeans · 07/02/2024 19:34

@Hayliebells I just have always known it as shrove tuesday, I had no knowledge that in England it was called pancake day.
As I've said I don't live in the UK I stream English speaking TV and most adverts come from Ireland.
I'm sorry if I have misinterpreted what you had said

YABU. Nobody calls it “Pancake Tuesday”.

Apart from the scores of posters on this thread who have said they call it Pancake Tuesday.

WingsofRain · 07/02/2024 19:35

I’ve called it Pancake Tuesday all my life, and all my family do as well. People can call it anything they like, as long as I get my share of the pancakes! 😁

scrambledeggsandbeans · 07/02/2024 19:36

@TyrannasaurusJex so all Irish and Scottish are psychopaths

But why come on a mainly UK site and have a go at people calling it something that most people don’t call it anyway?

Marmite27 · 07/02/2024 15:58

Pancake day or Shrove Tuesday, never Pancake Tuesday!

This. We called it pancake day when I was a child in the 60s. Its not a new thing.

Fink · 07/02/2024 19:42

ColleenDonaghy · 07/02/2024 19:30

You're thinking of Maundy Thursday, that's in Holy Week, at the other end of Lent.

The day before Shrove Tuesday is Collop Monday, the day to eat up the meat.

Jesus tastes like flavourless biscuits. And cheap sherry.

GoatHeartedPieFacedOwl · 07/02/2024 19:44

I just came to this thread to make sure someone had posted the PPPPPPPPancake day song from Maid Marion. And they had. So all is right with the world Tardis

scrambledeggsandbeans · 07/02/2024 19:44

@SomethingUniqueThisTime sorry didn't know it was only for UK people I thought it was all inclusive. Silly me 🤗

I don't live in the UK I live in Europe. I stream English speaking stations on TV most from Ireland and I'm sure they advertised it a pancake tuesday. Each to their own.
It just irked me a little.

Even growing up in a v Catholic house 40 yrs ago it was usually referred to as Pancake Tuesday more than Shrove Tuesday, dont think it's used as much in the UK
