A scam job?

Blu5martie5 · 05/02/2024 23:09

DS young friend has been offered a jnr sales job with no sales background at all. He got through interviews very quickly. My biggest red flag is that it is self employed.

'Apply today to join our dynamic sales team! Please note we will be offering this position on a self employed basis although all of our team have access to the support, coaching and education that they require.'

Thoughts?

MLM

Itslegitimatesalvage · 05/02/2024 23:11

Is it with one of those pyramid scheme companies? Like selling candles or whatever. Just tell him to turn it down. It is not a real
job.

Blu5martie5 · 05/02/2024 23:11

More context - I am advising him hence asking. I don't want to put him.off a potential great opportunity but its only a 1 year old company and seem to be pressuring him to move fast and leave current job.

They're set up as marketing agency, have good online presence which is professional but not on Glassdoor

Just no. It isn’t a real job. It also doesn’t even sound like true self employment and HMRC will come after them eventually as they’ve really tightened the rules about self employment versus employee.

It’s a scam. Walk away.

Itslegitimatesalvage · 05/02/2024 23:13

Link it here so we can see. It’s hardly
outing as they’ll be going after loads of people.

Friend of mine came across something similar recently. Dig into social media, it was clear it was a scam and bullshit. Found some reviews saying it was door to door selling. Avoid.

Itslegitimatesalvage · 05/02/2024 23:20

Yeah, it’s a scam job. And it’s not true self employment either. Tell the kid not to take this job. Stay in the job he has.

CuntRYMusicStar · 05/02/2024 23:20

Urgh - I worked for a company like that for one day. It was advertised as 'marketing' and 'sales opportunity'. I had to stand in a shopping centre and try and get people to sign up for a magazine. If they didn't want the magazine I had to try and convince them to leave their credit card details for a 'competition'. I got a basic (very basic) wage and then commission for each set of credit card details that were verified at the end of the day.

I felt like scum and never went back. I would never recommend anyone take that kind of work.

Links to other jobs in this "company" are riddled with spelling errors.

Any company pressuring to leave current role without notice is dodgy.

Self employed will either be in a shopping centre trying to stop people, or door to door. It's a loophole to avoid paying even minimum wage.

Thro · 05/02/2024 23:28

Sounds like an MLM/legal pyramid scheme. Avoid at all costs!

it looks like quite a few operate in your area:

Link to Reddit was amazing thank you so much. I have been in MLM and know the tactics and this had my spider senses tingling but didn't want to be a downer. Confident with the reddit backing up out own investigations and red flags. Good old Mumsnet

no problem! your original post screamed direct sales/MLM

I didn’t find anything immediately searching for Reach MKT MLM, so instead I tried “Reach MKT” MLM which searches the two words Reach MKT together as one string & I found the Reddit page.

Gingernaut · 05/02/2024 23:42

If there is a job, it'll be going door to door as a salesman, possibly Hawking charity subscriptions or expensive homewares
