Annoying postman

MamPadi · 01/02/2024 11:58

Not sure where to post this as just need a rant really!
And I know being a postman must be a thankless task sometimes and I do appreciate them.
But our postman knocks sooo loudly like he's trying to break the door down, I WFH so usually on a work call when he calls. If I don't answer (like really can't leave the call) he knocks again! If I'm ever out like occasionally work on site, he never leaves it always taken back to sorting office!
And no it's never anything that needs a signature.
Our old postman knew I WFH and just knocked once and left whatever on the doorstep or in my recycling box. My street is very quiet and safe, no concerns about theft of parcels!
I know he's just trying to do his job and be helpful but argh!! This morning he knocked twice 20 mins apart because he "forgot one" the first time!
Should I be one of those people who leave a passive aggressive note on the door to please not disturb as they're WFH??!!

Why not speak to him and tell him what you have said in your post.

C00k · 01/02/2024 12:00

Just register a SafePlace on the website, or get a parcel box. 🙄

Kitkatcatflap · 01/02/2024 12:02

I think you are being unreasonable. He is doing his job. He forgot something - so he knocked again, twice within 20 minutes, not something he is doing every day, all day.

CacenCaws · 01/02/2024 12:03

so speak to him and explain you work from home, can't answer the door, and to leave the parcels?

Ponoka7 · 01/02/2024 12:04

"Our old postman knew I WFH and just knocked once and left whatever on the doorstep or in my recycling box. "

Have you told the new one this? Have you spoke to him, or tried to register a safe place?

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 01/02/2024 12:05

He came back 20 minutes later because he'd forgotten a parcel and you're ANNOYED with him?
YABU

I bet you are aware of that which is why you haven't enabled voting

OhItsOnlyCynthia · 01/02/2024 12:05

Try to catch him to tell him what you'd like him to do. It's a bit unfair to let him keep doing something that annoys you without giving him a chance to get it right.

MeinKraft · 01/02/2024 12:05

YABU just go and open the door, we all get post it's not like this is unique to you and your work situation. Or stop ordering parcels if you don't want to receive them.

MinervatheGreat · 01/02/2024 12:08

I’ve known of sleeping shift workers to put Do Not Disturb notices on their doors so you could too.

When you next see him, tell him what your circumstances are too.
Ask him how he can help you.

Get a Ring Doorbell.
I think they have a function to allow you to speak to callers/posties via the door bell?

Creatureofhabit87 · 01/02/2024 12:09

Leave a note, he isn’t a mind reader!!

KreedKafer · 01/02/2024 12:13

YABVU. He’s literally just doing his job. He knocks loudly because if he doesn’t, most customers will complain that they don’t hear him. Leave a note, register a safe place or whatever, but don’t expect him to read your mind and just magically sense when you don’t want to be disturbed.

CurlewKate · 01/02/2024 12:19

Leave a note. Doesn't have to be passive aggressive, just polite and informative.

mummyh2016 · 01/02/2024 12:21

There will be another thread on here from someone complaining their postman only knocked once and they've missed their delivery. They can't win.

kisstheblarney · 01/02/2024 12:48

🤦‍♀️

You poor person, what on earth can be done?

Deathbyathousandcats · 01/02/2024 12:49

This truly is the End Of Days

namechange55465 · 01/02/2024 13:31

Why would it be passive aggressive to leave a polite note asking him to put parcels in your recycling box?

melaniepond · 01/02/2024 13:55

I think Royal Mail have recently changed their policy about leaving parcels on doorsteps, so that bit probably isn’t his fault.

penjil · 01/02/2024 14:04

Just leave a note on the door.

Postman, knock quietly.

Or

Postman, please don't knock, I'm on sensitive work phone calls all day.

Job done!

I think Royal Mail have recently changed their policy about leaving parcels on doorsteps, so that bit probably isn’t his fault.

Their "door stepping" of packets stopped years ago, nearly a decade officially.

The policy is to leave with a neighbour or take back to the delivery office.

WhatNoUsername · 01/02/2024 14:25

A do not disturb notice isn't passive aggressive! Maybe leave off the exclamation marks though!

Allthegoodusernamesareused · 01/02/2024 14:28

Yeah, posties aren't allowed to leave parcels on your doorstep, and only leave in another "safe place" if you've actually given them permission.
If you let him know your preference of where to leave things, I'm sure he'll be more than willing to oblige, it's more work for him to take things back!

abouttogetlynched · 01/02/2024 14:45

Ours does this! Bangs on the door like he’s trying to break it down! Think it’s to try and minimise the time he ends up stood at the door. Really annoying! Thankfully he doesn’t often need to bring anything that we need to answer the door for, so doesn’t happen very often.
Yes maybe just say to him you’re often not able to come to the door if you’re on a work call, so you’re happy for him to leave the item in the porch or something.

C00k · 02/02/2024 12:03

@abouttogetlynched they're not allowed to leave stuff on doorsteps. @MamPadi never bother to reply to the thread anyway.
