Funeral Directors question

SheLovesaCrisp · 29/01/2024 12:56

Are funeral directors allowed to confirm whether or not a body is there of someone I know? Am I right in thinking GDPR is only for living persons? Not family

My understanding is that GDPR is only for living people. But, I can understand why a funeral director would be cautious as they won't want to upset the family of the deceased.
I'm not sure how you could compel them to release this information (or why you would want to either!).

The FD has a contract with the person who is arranging the funeral so typically won't engage or share information with anyone else.

The NAFD has a code of conduct for FDs which suggests details of the deceased should remain confidential
