Are you on any what's app groups that you dont join in with anymore but still like to read what's said?

I don’t tend to post a lot on any WhatsApp groups I’m in — family, work, DS’s class parents’ WhstsApp, various different friendship groups, local residents’ group. I mean, I’m not sure anyone would notice if I fell silent for months.

I am constantly invited to groups and I do join but then immediately put them on silent. I find it difficult to cope with constant binging especially if a group has a person who, instead of writing one capture-all message, keeps writing 20 two-word messages until they complete the one sentence or question they needed to get out there.

I love a good lurk!

I hardly ever post on the school year WhatsApp groups.

Does anyone try and remove you?

Does anyone try and remove you?

I’ve posted twice this academic year, and no one’s removed me. I doubt anyone’s taking a tally!

Imnotabeliever · 28/01/2024 19:51

No. I am in family and work ones that I have muted and archived so I don't have to see them.

I’m on a sport group that I’m not as involved with anymore - I read and very occasionally comment if it’s to do with the people I was specifically involved with .

I had always had it on silent as there was rarely anything that needed immediate attention, unlike family, for example.

We did agree to remove someone who, it transpired, had been individually unpleasant to people behind the scenes ( without others realising it wasn’t just them being targeted ) - being openly and unnecessarily argumentative on the group finally revealed her behaviour and it was very much against the general tone.

I did ask a few people if I should still stay on now I’m a bit marginal and was strongly encouraged to do so but I think there will be a natural attrition as more new people join and others leave and I will step back then.
