Poppysmom22 · 28/01/2024 17:42

Every so often, maybe once a fortnight, I have one day where I have a very heavy cold symptoms full on temperature headache congestion etc I feel completely rubbish all day go to bed get up the next day and it’s gone. It’s not allergies as I take a daily antihistamine already. What is going on does anyone else have this? I suppose my Aibu is aibu to think this is odd

Are you run down/exhausted/over doing things?

This happens to me occasionally (although slightly different symptoms) usually when I'm utterly exhausted.. I get a hot bath and early night and then usually almost ok the next day & fine the day after...

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 28/01/2024 17:59

Have you tried keeping a food diary? It might be something you are eating that you are allergic to - yes, I know you take antihistamine, but they don't always work.

Is it at all linked to your menstrual cycle?

Poppysmom22 · 28/01/2024 18:01

I don’t feel especially run down but I am quite tired generally and could nap everyday given half a chance.
food diary is a good call I will give that a go
thank you for the replies, really do appreciate it

Is it at all linked to your menstrual cycle?

I don’t menstruate due to contraceptives so I can’t discount this as I don’t know what my hormone cycle actually is.

Have you had your bloods done for Thyroid.. ? If not I advise getting checked if you are always tired

Could it be post viral maybe? Some people have this as part of ME/CFS when they have overdone things. So many bugs also doing the rounds so it's not impossible that you're catching things too. Worth trying an antiviral nasal spray, masks where appropriate (especially health settings, supermarkets, public transport, FFP2 or FFP3 are best). A HEPA filter at home might help too if it might be allergy related or if you're picking bugs up from kids. If you can afford it I would also get some covid test kits in to rule that out each time, I know that gets expensive though :-( Good luck I hope you find some improvements. If not I would definitely make a non urgent GP appointment to discuss it.

I get this from time to time. I have always just assumed that I am starting to get a cold and then my body decides to wake up and fight it off. But I do have a bit of a broken immune system so I just thought it was probably normal for me.

Poppysmom22 · 28/01/2024 18:52

Thanks everyone I will make that appointment for the thyroid test as I’ve been trying to shift some weight and it just will not go @mynameiscalypso thats what I thought too but I’ve just felt so bad today that I can’t help but think there’s something underlying it. I will prepare to do battle with our docs phone system. Thank you again to everyone who responded

I would've said allergies. Every so often something sets me off and no matter what I do or where I go, i have full on runny nose, scratchy cold symptoms until the next day.

Last lot I think was the houseplants shedding some kind of pollen.

Other things I'm allergic to like cats, the symptoms go away when I go away from the cat.

HedonistHuntress · 28/01/2024 22:40

I get this when I drink some kinds of wine. White usually and a lot of tannnins.

PerfectTravelTote · 28/01/2024 22:48

Is there mould in your house?

Yes, I have CFS and sometimes I'm absolutely convinced I'm starting with a cold then day or so after I'll be fine. Usually happens on a Friday when I'm tired at the end of the week.

Poppysmom22 · 29/01/2024 06:17

Hi - no mould in the house, I am allergic to sulphites so avoid them (wine) no house plants and no cats as I know I am allergic to both. @Crinkle77 thats a good point I’m going to mark on my calendar and see but I feel like it usually is a weekend day.
