Not new news I know. It's highly unlikely that if you were being sent into high security prisons to work alone with men who had committed the sort of crimes against women that this man had, you wouldn't know what he was inside for, but even if you didn't know he bludgeoned a lone woman to death in a sexually motivated murder, wtf are you doing having sex with prisoners anyway?

What on earth goes on inside the heads of women who have sex with people like this in high security prisons?

Innocent victim, or fully aware of what she was doing? I mean honestly, what the actual fuck?

Zara Aleena's killer 'caught having sex with female prison worker in Belmarsh'

I'm a feminist, but that doesn't mean I agree with everything every woman does. Some women are stupid. Some women are amoral. Some women turn a blind eye to what happens/happened to other women.

What went on in this woman's head? I have no idea.

No woman should work in a male prison and no man should work in a women’s prison.

Really? Stuff that!

I work in a men's prison and easily avoid having sex with the inmates! Fgs

Wellhellooooodear · 27/01/2024 09:34

Don't underestimate how desperate some women are for male attention. Just look at all those who let random men into their kids lives who they don't know from Adam.

Many of whom are mumsnetters!

I appear to have managed pretty well for 20 years without sleeping with a prisoner either!!

determinedtomakethiswork · 27/01/2024 09:53

I don't know who this criminal is but it seems pretty obvious that many criminals will be extremely good at dealing with women and convincing them that they've done nothing wrong.

I went on a course once and someone who worked in prisons was on the same course. She taught literacy and numeracy to prisoners so not a warden. She said they often found that male inmates responded better and were more respectful to women and vice versa. I doubt she had sex with any inmates either.

SandyWaves · 27/01/2024 09:57

NotQuiteNorma · 27/01/2024 08:34

You see to me, I would see this as being dangerously detached on her part. It's just not feasible that she would be sent into high security prisons to work with dangerous inmates like this and not be aware of what he did. She would have to have been made aware he posed a serious threat to women. He could have strangled her during sex for god's sake. And that clearly wasn't a priority for her. And still, she was able to separate that henious act in her mind from the man she was dealing with. Totally disrespectful to the victim and her family. Of course it also raises serious questions about how he had access to lone women in the first place in prison.

True

I despair, I really do.

What he did to Zara was horrific. How on God's earth would any sane woman find him desirable enough to actually have sex with him. She's clearly able to hold down a job so she knew what she was doing and what he was in prison for. There are so many stories like this. I get the same sick feeling when women write to criminals in prison as pen pals.

Fluffyfleece · 27/01/2024 10:03

I actually think she's a complete shit if she did engage with sexual activity with him. It's like trampling over Zara's memory and the justice system. He's obviously going to take it wherever he can.

If she wanted sex she could just go down the local pub. Sick in the head.

PonyPatter44 · 27/01/2024 10:04

I've worked in men's prisons for over 10 years and have also managed to avoid having sex with any prisoners. There are advantages to having female officers on the wings, we say it dilutes the testosterone and some prisoners respond much better to women due to issues of their own.

People join the prison service for all sorts of reasons and sometimes those reasons are bollocks. Some people like the idea of having power over those in a weaker position, some people like the idea of being down among the bad boys. Most people join because they want to help others and make a difference, plus when they get there they find its a really interesting job.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 27/01/2024 10:07

She wasn't a prison officer though, so not the one banging up the wing

The article does stress that

ClareBlue · 27/01/2024 10:16

Ian Watkins gets letters from women everyday trying to form relationships with him, serial killers on death row get bags of correspondence and some end up meeting and even marrying women, women form relationships with men they know have been violent to previous partners every day, stand by violent men who abuse their children.
There might be deep pyscological needs and conditioning that results in this, or it might be just a self centred personality. But it happens regularly and having sex with a violent convicted sex offender is nothing particularly new. Just slightly more unusual it is a prison officer.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 27/01/2024 10:19

@ClareBlue it was NOT a prison officer

Jennalong · 27/01/2024 10:22

I worked in a male prison for 12 years and agree with @PonyPatter44 , but also many people work in jails because they are the largest employers in the area and have many friends & family that also work in it , also as living in an area that has a prison is not seen as an ' out there unusual ' job .

Many prisoners are very adept at making the best of a situation ( lifetime experience of conning & conniving ) to get their own way .

You'd hope at the interview stage that those applying for a career within the service who are vulnerable would be rejected , but sadly , and obviously not in all cases .

It's also not just females that are manipulated into doing things , prison staff have been found to bring in ( what is known as contraband ) drugs , mobile phones etc as well .

Moier · 27/01/2024 10:27

I know of a few female prison officers who have been jailed for having sex with prisoners in high security Wakefield prison.
( My old School friends husband was the Prison Doctor until he retired).

Just one of many below.

Moier · 27/01/2024 10:30

P.S it's also happened the other way round at Wakefields New Hall women's prison loads.
Male prison officers sexual abusing female prisoners.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 27/01/2024 10:33

Where in that article does it say she had sex with him @Moier

fonfusedm · 27/01/2024 10:33

Honestly I think some women are so desperate for male attention they’ll ignore anything - even men who commit these disgusting acts - just so they feel ‘wanted’.

Unpalatable but agree

Blueeyedmale · 27/01/2024 10:40

DustyLee123 · 27/01/2024 08:12

I just don’t see why women work in men’s prisons, and vice versa, where they can come into contact like that. I’m pretty sure a female prison officer got pregnant by an inmate.

Yes it does happen and yes there has Been a few prison officers who have ended up pregnant due to inappropriate relationships with inmates.

Quite a few years ago it happened in a young offenders institution the lad was only about 18 and the female member of staff was late 20,s

Saying that male members of staff also have relationships with female inmates but seems the press highlight female staff behaviour more

Oganesson118 · 27/01/2024 10:41

Not excusing either side before you all pile on, but from what I know, psychopaths can be exceedingly charming and persuasive. Though really as a prison guard, you should have enough about you to rise above that. Professionalism and all. Was she new to role? If he knew that, she'd have been an obvious target.

InAnotherLifetimeMaybe · 27/01/2024 10:41

We have plenty of teachers in our schools having inappropriate relations with students. Ban male teachers teaching females? And vice versa??

No. Didn't think so

She wasn't a 'prison guard'! Did you read the article?

SofaViagra · 27/01/2024 10:42

There are women who write love letters to mass murders, bring paedos into their homes and believe the psycho ex line when the court ordered no or centre contacr only with his kids.
So this doesn't surprise me. Abusers can be charming and there are damaged women out there attracted to this because that's the dynamic that feels normal or facinating to them. There are so many mentally ill people and dangerous people that we as a civil society can't sterilise or imprison so because of this, we are brushing shoulders with all sorts of people everyday.

SofaViagra · 27/01/2024 10:45

People have and wil always break boundaries that is why we have professional conduct 'courts' and a procedure to disqualify .. from teacher student to doctor patient, this happens.
Women shouldn't work in men's prison full stop.

That's true but I bet there are men out there that write to the likes of Lucy letby with their weird thoughts too
