To want my own duvet?

Have no issue sharing a bed with DH (despite the snoring)
But
Hate sharing the duvet... wake up too cold or too hot

Does anyone else share a bed but not a duvet?

I think about going this constantly but have never done it. First gift to myself with Feb payslip!

ScierraDoll · 26/01/2024 22:35

Forget sharing a bed. After 40 years married we sleep in separate rooms now. It's effing marvellous!

ElfAndSafetyBored · 26/01/2024 22:37

My Finnish friend swears by this but it also takes them ages to change all the duvets 🤣

Setphaserstaemalky · 26/01/2024 22:44

What's the protocol for making the bed? How should it look? I've been to Sweden and remember the separate duvets but can't remember how it looked when the beds were made!

SauronsArsehole · 26/01/2024 22:57

I used to with an ex. He was a duvet hogger and would roll up into it leaving me with none.

the ex hated it and thought it was a rejection because I’d been grumpy and irritable for a while.

lack of sleep made me irritable and grumpy. but he wouldn’t have it and threw the second duvet away.

needles to say we split up.

sleep is important and get a second one!

Jingleballs2 · 26/01/2024 22:58

Yes! I get hot and like a nice thin one

Peri-Menopausal me needs a very light duvet so we do often have different duvets

This!

Cappuccino17 · 26/01/2024 22:59

Yep and it was the best thing ever! No tugging or disturbing one another. Main reason was temperature differences.. i always feel warm so has a lower tog duvet and husband is always cold so has a higher tog duvet but it has these additional perks aswel. Best thing ever!

Mariposistaaa · 26/01/2024 23:03

Yes because I am so incredibly antisocial. I actually roll myself in it like I want to post myself on Vinted. Separate duvets has been a game changer.

KreedKafer · 26/01/2024 23:04

Two duvets is standard in most Nordic countries.

I’m all for it.

AllEars112232 · 26/01/2024 23:29

Absolutely! We’ve always had our own duvets. Just makes sense!

7catsisnotenough · 26/01/2024 23:50

We have a lightweight summer duvet all year round as DH is a "hot" sleeper, I add a heavy/ lightweight fleece on my side and chuck it off as necessary (menopausal!)
I prefer it to separate duvets as we're still "together" in bed (I know we still would be with separate duvets but it would feel weird!). I add/ remove the fleeces depending on night sweats 😞

My experience of German hotels is that they fold the duvets into 3 and just put the duvets alongside each other.

I like it. It's a good compromise.

FutureMandosWife · 27/01/2024 00:13

2 singles then a king size duvet here, we sleep better.

DPotter · 27/01/2024 00:17

DP & I have had separate duvets for years now. He likes light togged ones (3.5 or so) and I like heavier ones for the winter (currently 13 tog).

The bed does look a bit untidy, however I sleep soooo much better with a warmer duvet.

FinallyHere · 27/01/2024 00:29

Absolutely.

Superking Bed, double duvet each

Bliss.

pizzaHeart · 27/01/2024 01:20

Extra king size bed and double duvet each. It’s much easier. We have different body temperatures and I tend to roll into duvet tightly so DH’s demanded his own after years of suffering.
I’m not good at sharing.

Ponderingwindow · 27/01/2024 01:29

We switched to separate duvets years ago.

dh is under his big thick down comforter. I have my open weave, cooling weighted blanket. No cover stealing and no compromises on comfort.

we have a coverlet we pull over the whole thing when we make the bed so it looks tidy.

Kitkatcatflap · 27/01/2024 04:15

Not when we lived in the UK. But when we moved to Sweden (DH is Swedish) we got separate quilts. Can't think why we didn't do it before. Total game changer

lalalala2 · 27/01/2024 06:06

Thanks all. Will treat myself!

My DH wants to go scandi style with a duvet each, because he likes a nest and I like it tucked in tight. Just haven't got funds for all new bedding atm

Do you need new bedding? If you just get another duvet the same size as your existing bedding you won't have a problem.

KeeeeeepDancing · 27/01/2024 07:25

Yes we do. Super king bed. Double duvet each. Amazing.

OvxvO · 27/01/2024 08:29

We e recently switched to this and I can't believe how much better I sleep.

Poppysmom22 · 27/01/2024 08:40

We have separate duvets I like natural fillings my DH likes his layer of horrid hollow fiber it’s bliss and everyone is happy

Catza · 27/01/2024 08:43

We do. We just bought super king mattress and sleeping under the same duvet meant that we can no longer use the entire bed space which was pointless. We get much better sleep under separate duvets. The only downside is missing out on cuddles.
