To want my own duvet?

lalalala2 · 26/01/2024 21:14

Have no issue sharing a bed with DH (despite the snoring)
But
Hate sharing the duvet... wake up too cold or too hot

Does anyone else share a bed but not a duvet?

Oh my gosh, since getting divorced sleeping in a king size bed on my own is so divine it’s the only thing I shall ever do

ghostyslovesheets · 26/01/2024 21:42

Can confirm it was also the norm in Bavaria when I lived there - go for it

CopperLion · 26/01/2024 21:43

Oh gosh, this is a great idea. I’m about to switch to a king size bed from a double. Will have two standard double duvets already. Would it work to have two doubles on a king size bed (poss super king if it can be squeezed into the room). Or does it need to be two singles to avoid excessive bedding?

HeadNW · 26/01/2024 21:44

Super king bed, each have a double duvet. Had this arrangement since we moved in together 25 years ago and I couldn’t go back.

Whataretheodds · 26/01/2024 21:44

Partner and I agreed one of the best night's sleep we've both had sharing a bed together was in a superking, with blackout blinds, (which we do have at home) and a duvet each. Standard in Scandi, apparently

HermioneWeasley · 26/01/2024 21:45

Yes. We have a single duvet each. It’s the secret to our long and happy marriage

Isis1981uk · 26/01/2024 21:45

Absolutely! It took my partner and I years to finesse sharing a bed together! I wriggle in my sleep and waft cold air under the duvet... apparently, so we share a super king size bed (two distinct mattresses zipped together) and a duvet each! Whatever works!

LondonJax · 26/01/2024 21:46

We do! It's lovely.

No 'gaps' when one of us curls the duvet round us, or gets up for the loo and moves the duvet back. We can have a duvet tog that suits us individually.

It's easier to change a single duvet cover than a king or super king size.

DH sometimes has trouble sleeping so, at that point, he'll get up early, watch a bit of TV and snooze on the sofa. He takes his duvet with him in the winter to keep cosy - easily done and doesn't disturb me.

We find it hard to adjust to a shared duvet when we're on holiday now.

Greensleevevssnotnose · 26/01/2024 21:46

We have a double each and a super king over the top so it looks nice and neat

TigerDroveAgain · 26/01/2024 21:48

Yes: mine is lightweight, his is thick and he has a hot water bottle Smile

cauliflowerqueen · 26/01/2024 21:49

We share some bedding, but not all. DH usually wants the bed warmer, so he tends to have an extra layer just on his side. The only downside to separate duvets is that the bed might not look quite as good when made, but there are ways to work around that, if it's important to you.

Cantbebotheredwithausername · 26/01/2024 21:50

I'm from Denmark. Apparently it's normal here. I share a bed with my DH, but with separate duvets. Nobody wants to share a duvet with me. I steal duvets and wrap myself in them like a burrito. Bad idea. Also, my DH and I have very different body temperatures and duvet needs.

Go for it, get your own duvet. No need to suffer, sleep is precious.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 26/01/2024 21:58

Yes. And separate blankets. Works well and both of us sleep better. There are usually a few cats dotted amongst the them too. It’s not just humans who pinch bed linen/want to be warmer than icicle man (Dh)

amalfilemonpie · 26/01/2024 22:15

Yes, started years ago. I always cold, he's always too warm. Separate bedding is blissful!

RallySooney · 26/01/2024 22:17

Dh has a very heavy, very warm duvet and I have a duvet that has the tog value of a handkerchief. Much better than sharing and having a tug of war all night.

hudpat · 26/01/2024 22:18

I live in Austria and 2 duvets is completely normal here.

bagginses · 26/01/2024 22:19

We have separate duvets- game changer :)

EnjoythemoneyJane · 26/01/2024 22:20

Yep, absolute game changer! It’s lovely having your own little ecosystem - perfect temperature, doesn’t get whipped off in the night when he rolls over, less chance of waking each other up … I could go on. Go for it, you won’t look back!

theemmadilemma · 26/01/2024 22:22

I have a blanket under the duvet my side. It means that when DH rolls over I don't get a big waft of cold air.

user1471474138 · 26/01/2024 22:23

We’ve done this for the first time this winter and it’s been amazing - total game changer, would highly recommend

BruceAndNosh · 26/01/2024 22:24

We have a single each on a super king size bed

Atmywitsend21 · 26/01/2024 22:25

Yes separate duvets, we are both the kind to tuck and roll and this was we sleep much better. I wasn't convinced at first because I thought it wasnt very romantic but I can confirm there has been not detriment on thay front 😂

Nevermind31 · 26/01/2024 22:30

We have a king sized duvet each.
we used to share, but then DS1 came along and liked to co sleep, and we wouldn’t have him in the middle under the duvet as he was in a sleep bag, so didn’t want him to get too hot. DH for a while had the single guest duvet, then we upgraded him to his own king… saved us buying a super king when we needed a bigger bed…
it is lovely

Squiillionaire · 26/01/2024 22:30

We have two because apparently I "steal the duvet". It's not separate beds. For sleeping it is great. For other things you just discard one of them.

Whoopaday · 26/01/2024 22:31

We did this for a few years and had the best sleep ever! There was no gap of cold air between you, and when someone turned over the other person didn’t wake. Accidentally discovered it after staying at a friends house and sharing a bed but my own duvet. Bliss.
