To not wash the inside of my vagina?

Secretname123 · 25/01/2024 10:32

First AIBU so please be nice! There is a huge debate going on on twitter where people are horrified that some women wear tampons in the shower (it seems to be the majority of the many women responding to the tweets who are horrified). They claim it’s unsanitary because then you can’t wash inside your vagina. I thought we weren’t supposed to do this? I’m sure I had this drummed into me as a child. I never have and have never had an infection. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?!

If your tampon is blocking the opening of your vagina, then you're inserting it wrong!

Ahem.

If you bled around the clock for 7 days, I'm pretty sure you would be dead.

Are you a 10 year old boy?! Or just actually totally naive about how womens bodies work?! I had very heavy periods for 30 odd years. And shock horror - I didn't die! 🙄🙄🙄

Lucky you if you are female and don't suffer from them!

Seriously, do some actual research before coming out with stupid statements in future!

elgreco · 26/01/2024 15:17

I am not dead. Prooves jumpingthruhoops wrong.

pickledandpuzzled · 26/01/2024 15:43

Also not dead. Bled for a year continuously while waiting for the coil to work. Showered with tampon or moon cup in.

a swipe with a soapy hand was plenty effective. Nothing else needed.

I would say two things

  • no one knows how other people’s bodies work so shouldn’t be accusing them of stupidity for doing what they need to do.
  • the vagina self flushes so doesn’t generally need manual cleaning. Unless there’s been a major misplay, leave it be.
bringincrazyback · 26/01/2024 15:46

Clearly, according to certain people, we should all be douching with Ajax several times a day or we're skanks. Who'd have believed we'd need this explaining to us?

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 15:57

Yes what PP's are saying is true too @Jumpingthruhoops . I bled slightly for 6 months as I didn't get on with Depo Provera. Annoying, but no sign of death or any other health problems.

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 15:59

@bringincrazyback We were obviously brought up wrong. Smile My parents didn't tell me I needed to wash my belly button, but that's different.

IncompleteSenten · 26/01/2024 16:13

Oh god perimenopausal bleeding.
I remember that. It was horrendous.
Sympathies to any of you currently going through it. With that and the sweating it was a blessed relief when it was finally all over.

porridgeisbae · 26/01/2024 16:16

I started having much heavier periods in my 40s.

To anyone who's having them (maybe after they've completed their family) I recommend an endometrial ablation. No periods- yay! Absolutely amazing. Some women may get periods still with it, but much lighter.

SomeCatFromJapan · 26/01/2024 16:17

I like to give my urethra a good clean with an interdental brush. Anyone who doesn't is definitely too relaxed about their hygiene standards.

Jumpingthruhoops · 26/01/2024 16:17

AlltheFs · 26/01/2024 14:46

You don’t need to remove a tampon to
clean the opening of your vagina. The tampon is (should be !) inserted higher than that!

What a load of nonsense. Are you a man?

Edited

Nope. Last time I checked - ya know, because I'm thorough - I was still a woman!

Like I said earlier, I'm not going to argue with someone for choosing to be clean. That's just ridiculous.

Diamondcurtains · 26/01/2024 16:18

Never read anything so funny. How exactly does one clean the inside of their vagina 😂😂

A wet finger
even better… a flannel

Well, no, that's just obsessive. A flannel/sponge/other washing device is perfectly adequate.

FrillyGoatFluff · 26/01/2024 16:23

I'm sure there will be idiots out there that say they do it with neat Original Source mint and tea tree body wash, and therefore have a minty fresh vagina of iron. But there are muppets everywhere 😂

Honestly, leave it well alone, it sorts itself out.

Bleeding 'slightly' is unlikely to result in death. Obviously.

There's a significant difference in that and bleeding heavily, around the clock, for 7 days, which many on here say they do.

That would be an issue that requires medical attention.

Deffo not the mint one... that stings! 😂

I wash the areas properly that require washing i.e. the external bits, there is no reason whatsoever to wash inside your vagina.

I think you're just on the fucking wind up now, either that or you are completely thick

Neither. I just do things differently. Who knew THAT was a thing!?

Not sure why people are getting 'wound up', since they're happy with the way they do things? Odd.

Tell me about it! I'm shocked that grown women need to be told to wash their genitals. This thread has been truly eye-opening...

Are you always this obtuse? Nobody has said they don't wash their genitals.

Yep, he/she is definitely on the wind up. Not one person has said they don't wash their genitals

I was posting to agree with the PP that people can have menstrual etc bleeding for a protracted length of time and not die. Unless it's, like, a haemorrage or something.

Apologies... 'inside their vagina', which basically everyone has said. Better?

Definitely a 'she' but certainly not on a wind up... and not sure why people are getting wound up if they're happy with their way of doing things.
