Bastarding Uber driver

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/01/2024 16:50

I took an Uber to work last week. It came up as just over £17. The driver went the way with all the traffic and ended up taking ages. He also had his phone on the passenger seat and was tapping it throughout the journey when we were sat at lights. I just checked my account and I was charged almost £26 for the journey. I'm on to Uber now but what a piss take!!!

Why did you not check at the time

Barrenfieldoffucks · 19/01/2024 16:52

Am not an Uber expert, but wouldn't a normal taxi also cost more than the estimate if it gets stuck in traffic?

AgnesX · 19/01/2024 16:53

What does your invoice/receipt say. Are there zone charges to add on or some kind of add on that's nothing to do with distance?

Cosyblankets · 19/01/2024 16:54

I thought uber worked that it gave you the price at the start.
But yes i would have checked.
In the option to rate the driver you can leave feedback

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/01/2024 16:57

I had no data in the car so didn't see any add ons and he certainly didn't mention anything.

Aapparently it's because he took a detour. News to me.

Just message uber. They will recalculate the journey and give you a partial refund if they think the driver overcharged

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/01/2024 17:01

It is just the sneaakiness and he didn't go the shortest, less busy way anyway. Tapping away on his phone throughout the journey really narked me too and then he started speaking on a call for ten minutes at one point. Sneaky driver.

Uber is giving me a refund of the difference of the amount I was quoted and the amount I actually paid. Good on them.

The fare is flagged up prior to you booking it. How did they change it?

SpeedbirdSquawker · 19/01/2024 17:10

The lady I spoke to from uber said the driver marked it as a detour! We did no such thing!

This happened to me except the driver was nice and he was genuinely stuck with the restrictions. It was nearly double what I had initially been quoted.

I live locally so I was confident he couldn't go another way. Just saying the mark-up can be fair at times.

TinkerTiger · 19/01/2024 17:25

I had similar OP. Was well above the quote. Got a refund.
