I'm sorry somebody died at a relatively young age. But I don't understand why it was constantly in the news about his long illness. If it was some sort of campaign to publicise the effects of long Covid I'd understand but that didn't seem to be the case.,

Exactly. It wasn’t really raising awareness in my opinion .

id applaud Kate if she did a series of articles or segments on tv interviewing other long covid sufferers because she’s living with it and has understanding.

instead every article and segment was about their own struggles. Even this week It’s all about friends on rota around her and rallying. Clearly fed information to the journos.

and I’ll also add that the ability for other long covid sufferers to connect via social media and form online communities, connect with researchers because information is so much more easily shared, has drawn probably drawn more attention to the debilitating effects of long covid than the attention a presenter and her husband with a dubious past has done.

This site is getting as bad as tattle.

SallyWD · 19/01/2024 13:04

Oh she's just awful, like a pantomime villain. She'll say anything to get in the papers. It's just disturbing that so many people agree with her.

Fionaville · 19/01/2024 13:26

She's like a caricature of herself. She is her own Spitting image puppet, writing her own lines.
She's a pompous, snobbish, self opinionated prat. I have no idea why ordinary working class people, allow themselves to be influenced by her or her type.

Derek didn't have long covid, he had multiple organ damage caused by the acute infection - alas i knew someone who went the same way after flu.

Long covid is a different ballgame, very real, but its mechanism isn't known, and is probably in fact several different conditions.

I don't follow what Kate Hopkins gets up to but it must be atrocious if even people like Piers Morgan and Dom Joly think she's out of order! Reminds me of the time Zoë Wanamaker says the cast rejected some of the scripts for My Family as they weren't any good... how dreadful must they have been to get rejected, surely they can't be any worse than the ones that got through.

Wow, really? I can’t imagine how bad the rejected ones were. Zoe Wanamaker and Robert Lindsay are terrific so made it watchable, but the scripts…

to be fair she’s been all over TV since his illness

i say that as someone who’s not fan of either but she does discuss derek a lpt

i don’t for a minute think she’s for publicity

but equally can’t say she didn’t see it coming

Yes I agree.
It's like nobody else is going through anything similar.
But Hopkins is the spawn of the devil. Wicked bitch

Most people can't afford several bouts of experimental treatments in Mexico to help 'cure'him.

Or the medevac back to UK from mexico when he suffered the heart attack just before he died.

And?
I'm not sure she could afford it either. She's reported to be in financial difficulty.

To be fair I’ve been sat wondering why Draper has gotten the attention he has when there’s thousands who are struggling with long covid, who have gone through PIP declared fit for work but aren’t and are living through the inhumanity of poverty whilst waiting for tribunals.

There are other notable people who are still suffering long covid and are forgotten. We have doctors and nurses who worked through every wave of the pandemic and are now so disabled by covid they can’t work and are denied disability benefits. we don’t hear about them.

I am sympathetic to garraway and draper who were fortunate enough to be in a position to afford care. Who are fortunate enough to have been able to monetise the effects of this illness to pay for care.

though I feel it was exploitative too especially all the footage we saw of Draper in a coma or fatigued. And that’s why the whole thing feels icky to me.

I feel the same about parents who use their disabled kids (even adult children!) on insta and YouTube and earn from it.

There are not thousands of people in the position that Derek was in. His condition was severe and not just symptoms of long covid. He had multiple organ damage, was incontinent, he appeared to have brain damage and could barely speak, couldn't dress himself, feed himself or walk. He was never in a position to even be considered fit for work. He needed round the clock care after a long period in a coma and much of the last four years in hospital. There was no real hope that the damage his body suffered was reversible. His condition was rare.

Long Covid sufferers with symptoms of fatigue etc. can at least have some hope that they will eventually recover.

My point is some people make her out to be this long Covid ambassador for all the suffers they arent, they are very rich and able to do this.

Also the vitriol at Katie hopkins when she is mates with Piers Morgan and sat at side of him whilst he spat out horrendous stuff is laughable.

A chunk of the financial difficulties are due to shitty business decisions taken before he was ill.

MaggieNextDoor · 19/01/2024 17:42

Katie Hopkins makes her living by being a horror show of a human being. I feel sorry for her children, having that as a mother. She's truly abhorrent.

Mocking a woman who has just lost her husband is revolting. I'm pretty sure the Mexico treatment was a desperate attempt to restore some quality of life for him.

Lwrenagain · 19/01/2024 21:07

But the important KH question of the day really is...

Has she dug up old Adolf yet?

BigMandsTattooPortfolio · 19/01/2024 22:19

Her vs Piers Organ - it’s like a fight between a douchebag and a turd sandwich.

fleurneige · 06/02/2024 10:16
