Embarrassing to stand on the bus?

Waiting for the bus earlier. There were two women 20s I would say. When they saw the bus was quite full as it came to stop one said this.

Dosent look like there's any seats. It's embarrassing to stand.
Friend Shrugged and they got on.
I noticed they went further down the bus and did actually manage to get a seat each. Not together but they got a seat near each other.
I'd never heard that before and never heard anyone say it was embarrassing to stand.
I don't feel embarrassed do you? Just glad to get on and get to my destination?

She'd never been on a bus before and had no concept of the fact people stand. She would have had us wait for the next bus assuming there would then be seats. I've educated her since!
