I am so angry with our postman, come and tell me to calm down

I'm waiting for a new cashcard after I lost my purse. The bank told me I could collect it from my branch or have it sent by recorded delivery.
I got the pin through the post yesterday and then today the postman arrived with my card. They neglected to tell me I would need photo i.d. I couldn't believe it and asked the postman if I could show him some bank statements, and even the DC's birth certificates with my name on but he said it wasn't enough and left.
I am furious, I now have to go to the bank again to draw money over the counter, which is a long process without photo id, and god knows when I will get my card.

I understand why they do this but it has just really inconvenienced me.

March has been the month from hell for me, I can't wait for a day when nothing goes wrong.

thats a strange way of doing things, they just put mine through letter box

lollipopmother · 19/03/2008 11:03

I'm thinking it should be the bank that you are angry with as they didn't tell you that you needed the ID. The postman was just doing his job.

WigWamBam · 19/03/2008 11:03

It's not the postman's fault. He has to follow the rules - he could lose his job if he doesn't.

Be angry at your bank for not telling you that you needed photo ID.

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/03/2008 11:05

I know it is the banks fault, but the postman was incredibly grumpy so I got cross with him.

I even dug out an old nus card with my photo and name on but it was no good. I've never heard of this before either, maybe they are tightening up with all the id fraud and theft going on?

That's weird. Our cards just come in the ordinary post.

bozza · 19/03/2008 11:07

Do you not have any photo id?

TBH I am surprised at this. I am sure I just have cards sent through the post. I lost my card last week and cancelled it last Thursday. I went through the rigmarole of getting it cancelled and managed to get some money available from the local post office if I went in with a cheque only I had to tell them which cheque number and I didn't know because I was at work etc, so it got quite complicated. And I needed £400 because I was due a mattress delivery. Anyway the PINs (insisted on cancelling DH's card too because same card number - how ridiculous is that?) came on Saturday but no sign of any cards yet. Not exactly prompt.

Psychomum5 · 19/03/2008 11:09

so does the postie have a photo of you to compare to??????

most odd, and you are right, bloody inconvient too!!!!

ajandjjmum · 19/03/2008 11:09

I often send things by recorded delivery, and no-one has ever been asked for photo ID.

Psychomum5 · 19/03/2008 11:11

sorry, my post sounds and is wrong.

how does a photo ID help anyway for the postie????? never heard of this before!!!

bozza · 19/03/2008 11:11

All that spiel was meant to say that I feel your pain on this one.

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/03/2008 11:14

My passport has been sent off for renewal and I lost my driving license with my purse.
I would have thought being at the address on the envelope, with an out of date nus card and stacks of letters addressed to me and the DC's birth certificates would be enough.

It's a pain as I have to go to the bank and then have them call up so I can verify my identity before I can get cash out (having no passport etc)

I know I'm moaning about nothing in the grand scheme of things but it's just little things that build up alongside the big things.
Pray that April is a much easier month!

It's not the posties fault- the bank should have informed you of this

I'm on hold to the bank now to rant at them, I'm getting quite practiced at this complaining business.
But why are they playing a crackly beatles medley to me, it doesn't make me any happier to be on hold.

Calm down.

VictorianPASqualor · 19/03/2008 11:46

Even when I have picked things up from the post office I have NEVER needed photo ID, just something with my name and address on.

Also TDEN can you email me fan-fkn-tastic @ hotmail dot co dot uk. Need to speak to you about something.

billysitch · 19/03/2008 11:49

Crickey, not heard of photo ID before. I used to be a postie too, must be a new thing. Our cards just came through the post, and passports too.

Seems a bit odd, can understand you being mightly peeved. Being on hold to a bank needs some patients (sp?)too, I doubt I would have it.

Good luck kiddo.

Troutpout · 19/03/2008 11:58

oh it's the banks fault yes...give em what for.

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/03/2008 11:59

You got mail.

The bank have said my card will probably be held at the sorting office for a week and I will need photo id to collect it. They can't check anything for the moment as it was only a couple of hours ago that the delivery was attempted.

Never mind. I am calmer now and realise it's nothing to get so worked up about. I'm such a fool sometimes.

OP posts:
billysitch · 19/03/2008 13:19

You are NOT a fool, I would be steamed about this too. Sometimes the blinking beauacratic nightmares get to us all.
Chin up kiddo, you may find when you speak to your delivery office that they will be sympathetic and accept other id.

Love to posties everywhere x

ibelieveindreaming · 19/03/2008 13:23

I would be angry with the bank.

ibelieveindreaming · 19/03/2008 13:23

I would be angry with the bank.

TheDevilEatsNestle · 19/03/2008 15:04

I have a result. I phoned our sorting office and they said they will redeliver tomorrow and I just have to show proof of address. They said the postman was wrong to insist on photo id.

It makes no sense at all that I have to show proof that I live at the address where they are delivering it to.

Surely?
