I work with people who people hate for doing something/not doing something - they can't win

Endless meetings

Teenagers

I don't just give out information or tell them where they can do BTEC performing arts

it's niche

School careers advisor.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/01/2024 22:30

@Doctorbear - thank you for your work - it's hard - no one has guessed mine but I am occasionally in meetings with your 'younger' colleagues.

This week I've been pooped on, vomited on, and bled on at work. I often hear people screaming and crying, and finally, I get lots of opportunity to practice my catching skills.

Can anybody guess!?

Midwife

GenerousGardener · 17/01/2024 22:31

@Xtraincome totally correct. I’ve had plenty of people snatch stuff out of my hands as I’m working. I pretty much have a ‘following’ the whole time I’m at work.

haXXor · 17/01/2024 22:31

Today I have pushed, pulled, added, and committed.

StellaGibson2022 · 17/01/2024 22:32

Doctorbear · 17/01/2024 22:26

Today I have met with two rapists and two people who have committed violent offences. I suspect that at least one of those was under the influence of drugs, one under the influence of alcohol and one is an active drug dealer. I have no ability to prove any of this but I will be held responsible if shit hits the fan.
I have tried to source accommodation for one of them and referred for mental health support for another. Neither of those will be available although with the cold weather my rough sleeper will be given somewhere to sleep for the next few nights (in a communal lounge at a hostel).

You are a probation practitioner/officer

Xtraincome · 17/01/2024 22:32

@ghostyslovesheets school nurse? Child psychologist? pastoral worker?

ghostyslovesheets · 17/01/2024 22:33

haXXor · 17/01/2024 22:30

School careers advisor.

Close but not with schools (well I work with schools all over the UK and beyond)

I work with people often in the news - and vilified for a) not doing their job or b) doing their job - generally hated by the Daily Fail

I also work with families, young offenders, gang members, and have had furniture thrown at me

I am a careers adviser though

5 people told me they hated me today but only 2 people bit me. Only one person cried and 3 moaned about their bill. Standard.

BeverForget · 17/01/2024 22:36

@Doctorbear
You are a police officer, working with police officers..?

OoohLaLaLa · 17/01/2024 22:37

I spent the time between 4.00 and 4.30pm hiding under a desk with a colleague with the lights out and the doors barricaded.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/01/2024 22:38

LauderSyme · 17/01/2024 22:35

Working adjacent to social services with looked after children?

Yes! I work for a Virtual School for Looked After Children - mainly yr10-11 supporting, 16-18 NEET and 18-25 support

I bloody LOVE my job but it is demanding and stressful - I work with any of our young people in care regardless of where they are placed - so travel - a lot!
