To think that Freecycle has just got ridiculous...

We have someone asking for a DS Lite...

Her DD's friend has just been round, and she played with hers, and now DD wants one for her birthday. But freecycler has already bought her a whole pile of Barbie stuff because that is what she wanted last week. So does anyone ahve a DS Lite for free that she can give to her daughter as well....because she wants one.

Anyone tell me what happened to "No" and "Its too expensive" and "You could try saving some pocket money and we'll see what we can do...". Now is just "Oh I'll ask on freecycle"..

i didnt participate in forsale board arguments.

BoysOnToast · 18/03/2008 23:20

libEL, give it to charity then.

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:20

Like I said, the problem I started to have with Freecycle is people not showing up.

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:20

Or people getting cheeky saying, 'Oh, can you deliver it?'

BoysOnToast · 18/03/2008 23:21

and thats exactly the sort of shit i couldnt be bothered to put up with , expat. how f'kin rude of them.

Beenleigh · 18/03/2008 23:22

That's annoying, can understand why you don't bother with it, every time I've got rid of something, people have turned up exactly when arrnged, it's been brilliant, but I certainly wouldn't bother if I was just going to get pissed around.

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:22

then when you said, 'sorry, i can't' (usually because they want it for evening when DH worked and i had to stay home with teh girls), they'd say, 'I don't want it then' and I'd have to go through the hassle of re-listing it.

libEL · 18/03/2008 23:23

All the items have been offered have gone to wonderful people as far as I know

I also give to charity

Beenleigh · 18/03/2008 23:24

A friend told me the other day that someone asked her if she could meet them half way between her place and theirs.......uh...........NO!! It's like doing a car boot and people expecting carrier bags!

UnderRated · 18/03/2008 23:24

SOmeone just asked for a Roomba on mine. Highly unlikely but I suppose worth asking.

Beenleigh · 18/03/2008 23:24

sort of

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:25

I have met people on the way home from my work, if it was on my way, to give them stuff - in cafes and that.

But otherwise, I'm not running a delivery service and lots of times, it was items that would have been a hassle for me to carry down from our 2nd floor flat with 2 little kids and then pay for petrol to get to their cheeky arse.

ShinyHappyChickensLayingEggs · 18/03/2008 23:26

I think some people just like to be able to sneer at Freecyclers for openly accepting something for nothing. God knows why. Unsubsribe if it offends you so much.

However I do see some rather outrageous requests on Freecycle, but they ARE all aproved.. so they must be considered ok.

libEL · 18/03/2008 23:27

We've delivered items to people before

As dp pointed out we need it out the way, if it hadnt been wanted by somebody else we have had to either take it to the charity shop or take it to the tip!

ShinyHappyChickensLayingEggs · 18/03/2008 23:28

That's because you are a nice person Libel

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:28

if it were on my way i would, lil, and it was carriable, but seriously we had loads of charity shops in walking distance so why burn petrol if people can't make arrangements to collect it?

we gave away two bookcases to Bethany and they came and got them.

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:29

it's nice, Shiny, but some people don't have a car, can't get out because of kids in bed, etc.

ShinyHappyChickensLayingEggs · 18/03/2008 23:30

Oh I know! I wasn't suggesting Freecyclers should deliver.. just that it's nice of them to if they can and the recipients can't collect.

libEL · 18/03/2008 23:32

I think expat thats why dp doesnt mind delivering items - we never used to have a car and it was a nightmare at times! We were lucky that people helped us and its nice to return the kindness now.

Also, our house is sometimes a tip itself and we'd rather not let people see it!

expatinscotland · 18/03/2008 23:34

i do miss having all the charity shops around.

it was SO easy to keep clutter to a minimum because everytime i had a small pile, i'd just stroll over to a charity shop.

BearMama · 18/03/2008 23:36

And People do deliver sometimes...I replied to something but said at the time it might be a few days before I could collect because of being late-pg housebound and to give to someone else if that was a problem. She was not far so offered to deliver which was nice.

Ineedacreamegg · 19/03/2008 09:49

Lol someone is offering 15 packets of crisps on mine.
I have given to some lovely people om freecycle but there seems to be more wnated ads than offers at the moment.

lillypie · 19/03/2008 09:57

I post lot's of things on freecycle and couldn't care less who collects them or what them do with them as long as they stay out of landfill.Surely that's the point?

SoupDreggon · 19/03/2008 09:59

"Someone even asked for a dishwasher the other day and for it to be delivered! Do they honestly think people just happen to have a spare lying about?"

Um... at one point I had 2 spares in the garage!
