To be annoyed that DH used my Christmas gift before I did

Just that really

He bought me a book for Christmas, not one I had asked for, more of one of his interests than mine but I would still read.

I haven't had chance to start reading it yet. Tonight I walk into the living room to see him sat reading it himself.

AIBU to say that he is out of order to have done so?

I cant believe how many people would be annoyed at a book being read! Wow.

Well it's just like him buying a jumper for your Christmas present that suits and fits him and then he wears it before you have a chance to wear it.

It's 3 weeks since Christmas and you've not even started it? I'd be thinking perhaps you didn't like it. At least someone is enjoying your Christmas gift!

EveryOtherNameTaken · 16/01/2024 10:43

Maybe he didn't know you hadn't read it.

Suggest to him as he looked at it first, he has to cook the first meal from one of the recipes 😏

Tbry24 · 16/01/2024 10:59

It sounds like he bought it for himself tbh. If a book or newspaper/magazine is new whoever it belongs to gets to read it first in this house. If someone touches my books or bookshelves I get really stressed, fine if I lend it or thry ask not fine if they don’t.

curlilox · 16/01/2024 11:48

I think he bought it for himself, then thought he could get away with giving it to you instead of buying something else.
My DH has form for buying presents that are really something he wants, eg the year he bought me a chip pan so I could make him proper chips.

I think that's the whole point, she didn't much like it but did think she'd read it!

Not something I would be overly bothered about, dp used the hand mixer I got for Xmas first (from family, not him haha!). I was irritated when he initially made a big song a dance about me using it first and was going to use a wooden spoon.

Threee weeks doesn't seem like very long for that to be a thing.

He owes you a Christmas present and I wouldn't be making no bones about it either.

This.

EmeraldA129 · 17/01/2024 00:25

Yeah, you are right. Nobody should use your gift before you do. It sounds like he got something he wanted himself & have it to you so he could have it too.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/01/2024 01:12

Two extra presents @CameltoeParkerBowles

Say they both had five. He now has 6 and she has 4. She needs two more.

Is there a use by date on a book? I'd never realised.

Cactusmad · 17/01/2024 09:33

It’s the entitlement, not a nice way for him to be. Now every gift u receive will make u think is this given freely .
