To ask if a burglar would bother with you?

Caveat this with I know burglaries are awful and this is a lighthearted take so don't read on if it could be upsetting.

Was on our way out and DH fussing about the double lock on the door and mumbling about not making it easy for burglars to get in, and it just struck me with 'WTAF would they take"?

We have an old TV, sofa is battered, no fancy kitchen devices, only good jewellery is my engagement ring that's permanently on me, everything is digitised and on iPhones which are with us, old laptop, no cash. I had this image of a burglar standing bewildered, shaking their heads feeling sorry for us.

Am I alone in this?

I've twice disturbed burglars in my house in the early hours. Two different houses and I live alone. The first time they got away with my car keys and the car. The second time they hadn't found the keys when I heard them and switched all the lights on which scared them off.

They generally are only interested in car keys and handbags/cash nowadays.

No, nothing exciting to steal.

The thing is, they wouldn’t know you didn’t have anything worth stealing, so they’d start ransacking your house looking for stuff. When my colleague was burgled they only took two items - one pair of earrings and a ring, neither of which were actually worth more than about a hundred quid. But in the process of taking them, they overturned furniture, kicked cupboard doors off, upended drawers etc. And loads of things got broken or damaged just from being knocked over or chucked on the floor during the search.

She actually had a decent TV and there was a laptop in the house, both of which the burglars actually ignored.
