Tea with my breakfast

DH and I stayed over at a hotel last night. We stayed for breakfast this morning which was an additional charge. No problem. I ordered a continental breakfast which included a cup of tea or coffee. I asked for tea and it was brought to the table along with a fruit juice (also included).
DH opted for a Full English. When his came there was no drink included in the price so I gave my husband my tea and I had the orange juice. Waiter wasn’t happy. She said the tea is only included with the continental option and that I couldn’t give DH my tea. I laughed and said it was my tea (I’d paid for it) and I’d do whatever I want with it.
it was otherwise a lovely stay. Was I unreasonable?

That's so weird of them. Firstly for not including a drink with breakfast and secondly for saying you can't give your tea to someone else!

kisstheblarney · 13/01/2024 16:50

What an utterly ridiculous rule!

YANBU!

Wait for the cries of theft though!

Lunabetty · 13/01/2024 16:50

Very strange of them tbh

DuckDuckGoose23 · 13/01/2024 16:51

No, you’re not unreasonable.
I could understand if you’d bought an unlimited drinks package and then ordered loads of drinks to share with someone who hadn’t ordered the package. But if it was a single cup of tea/coffee and you just gave it to him then that’s totally fine.

takealettermsjones · 13/01/2024 16:51

YANBU at all and I'm glad you laughed tbh!

HeckyPeck · 13/01/2024 16:51

I mean who would want breakfast with no drink at all?! So odd.

Foodieasfuck · 13/01/2024 16:53

I suppose she felt they were missing out on selling him an additional tea.. we just assumed it would be included with his breakfast as it was with mine. Really odd.

Weird for not providing tea or coffee with the full breakfast

Even weirder to police your cup of tea

VickyEadieofThigh · 13/01/2024 16:54

Hotels that offer breakfast but don't include it in the room rate really annoy me. My usual breakfast is a cup of tea and a small amount of plain yoghurt with some fruit - asking me to pay £15 for that when I've paid what is often a lot for the room is just insulting.

I fail to see what the OP's breakfast included tea but her husband's didn't. Ridiculous.

Foodieasfuck · 13/01/2024 16:57

Thanks everyone. I really couldn't work out of Iwbu or not. The most natural thing in the world to me, when I had 2 drinks and my DH had none was to share with him… Weird!

Well, of course, but that's not for her to dictate. He might not have wanted a drink at all. 🤷🏻‍♀️

cantbecaught · 13/01/2024 17:01

They have no right whatsoever to dictate what you do with your own cup of tea! Madness! I would give feedback that the stay was great apart from this and see what they say - surely management would be embarrassed at this nonsense.
