Colleague said something was a bit Irish

Something that hadn't been planned properly, she said it was a bit Irish and laughed.
Is that not quite racist? Or am I being too woke?

So she said 'it's a bit Irish' meaning it's a bit crap like you'd expect from someone Irish. I think that qualifies as racism as racism can be prejudice against another ethnicity and white Irish is a different ethnicity. I think it's the sort of casual racism that people often just think is a joke and don't realise it can be quite damaging to how different ethnic groups are viewed.

Like others though I had never realised that having a paddy was to do with Irish people as I only associated it with 3 year olds - and I've never heard of the term Irish twins apart from on here.

I wondered then though if taking the mick has Irish roots too and was offensive but apparently it's from Cockney rhyming slang and 'Mickey Bliss' is rhyming slang for piss.

I think you may have missed the point… here is a simplified version:
A) Person saying “it’s a bit Irish” comment is/has Irish/Irish heritage = Not a racist comment.
B) Person saying “It’s a bit Irish” comment is not/has no Irish/Irish heritage = This is a racist comment.
Calling out A when you have no Irish heritage = Woke - A is allowed to self-deprecate by poking fun at themself.
Calling out B whether you are A or B = Absolutely fine to do this: it’s only racist when it’s B disrespecting A’s Irishness…
