We have a trip/holiday next week.
I want to start to plan to pack now/next couple of days. Figure out what I'm going to be wearing/ if anything needs washing sort out luggage etc
They want to do it the day before.
Who is being unreasonable?
Them - aibu? Pack day before
Me- yanbu? Pack early

I sort of pile certain things in the general area of the suitcase starting a few days (or even sometimes longer) in advance. Things like chargers, adapters, underwear, certain clothes. Basically anything that I want to make sure I don’t wear before I go and the little things that I won’t need before I go and really don’t want to forget. I wouldn’t actually pack the case until the day before (or the morning if I don’t have to set off early). If I did it too far ahead I’d forget what I’d packed.

I pack the night before, because that works for me. My husband packs days in advance, because that works for him.

If I pack too early I am more likely to forget things that can only be packed last minute (such as medication, phone charger and tablet.)

My husband does get a bit agitated a few days before we go, constantly asking me if I've started packing yet and pointing to his full suitcase. I have to remind him every time that I have always packed the night before and nothing bad has ever happened. Also, that I forget to pack important items less frequently than he does...

It is if I end up having to wash something quickly the night before!

Well you just tell them now that you won’t be doing that. Then don’t do that when it inevitably happens.

I make my list of what I'm bringing and what needs to be washed, a couple of weeks before.
The week before, wash everything and pack it all about 3 days in advance(rolled an in packing cubes) keep suitcase open in spare room in case anything needs to be thrown in later. The night before, case is closed and put downstairs.

I pack the night before. I also pack ds's case at the same time.

DH is an adult, can use the washing machine if he needs to and can pack his own suitcase. He's not Kevin McCallister.

I know we're not going anywhere hot so we're wearing the same clothes as here. I should just say that if it's not clean it's not coming.
Remembered to order some cash to take with us which I pick up the day before.

Just tell them now there will be no last minute washing. Unless they do it themselves but you won't be.

CrushingOnRubies · 09/01/2024 20:08

The day before! I find if I do it too early I over pack.

Also, I don't have enough clothes if I'm going to a similar climate. Unless it's a specific outfit I want to take and I want to make sure it's ok. Like a specific dress to a wedding

Also depends on how long I'm going for

What a bizarre AIBU!

For the record, we do the majority of packing before but there's some stuff that literally can't be packed until last minute. Certainly for the holidays we do as a family.

QueSyrahSyrah · 09/01/2024 20:09

I pack on the day if we're flying after about noon, the night before if we're flying in the morning. I have a list in my head (or sometimes in my phone) the few days before though. I travel often though, and I'm only packing for myself.

Whatevs23 · 09/01/2024 20:13

I tend to start making a list on my phone in advance of the trip, sometimes even several weeks ahead of time, and add to it every time I think of something I might want to take. But I won't usually pack until the day before or that day, depending on what time we're leaving.

But, does it matter what your other half (if that's who "they" is) wants to do? You take care of your stuff when you want to and they can do theirs when they want to.

They should do their own.
