How long is your school run?

We've sold our house and are looking for a new place, currently staying with family. Our son is at school and daughter starting this year. We're very happy with the school and will not be moving them. My question is how far do you drive for a good state school? I want to be able to still have friends back and continue to do local clubs. Is 20 mins too far? We're currently doing 18 minutes from my MIL and it doesn't seem too much but would it be too much twice a day, for 7 years plus?

By yr 6 your DD will want to walk to school with friends. It's an important step IMO so if you can facilitate that I absolutely would.

We have a 7-8 minute drive on a good day but today it took half an hour because of traffic, we will quite often walk because it only takes 20 minutes, but I was running late today and needed to get to work (because of the traffic, I was late anyway).

When I was in school however, my mum used to drive 40 minutes each way for me and my sister to attend an English speaking school - we lived in THE most Welsh part of Wales and the 2 other schools near to us were Welsh first language and while my sister and I can speak Welsh fluently, my parents could not so wanted us in an English school.

5 minute drive or 30 minute walk. Not our choice. Our village primary is really over subscribed and we didn't get in as on the outskirts of the village. Local buses are really unreliable so has to be walk on days my DH needs to be in the office.

5-10minute walk along a footpath through fields. I can see the school from our bedroom windows across the fields. It’s a faff to drive and I love it. It’s a good state primary.

10 min walk or a 40 second drive if I'm running really late, its great

A 10 minute walk, en route to my work.

Ours is a 15 minute drive. Not ideal but we chose to live in a quiet rural location outside of town so driving everywhere is the trade-off.

2 mins from my house
