Wanting to change DD2s name as no one else seems to likely

TeddyBares · 08/01/2024 00:03

I hate posting this, DD2 is 8 weeks old, she’s perfect but I’m super sleep deprived so probably extra sensitive.
DD1 is 2 when she was born everyone complimented her name, and even know still do.
DD2 gets a mix of aw lovely to just down right to “oh like the fabric softener (more so over text than in person)” it’s making me really sad. Today we went out for lunch and the waitress asked their names told her and she went gosh that’s a gorgeous name in reference to DD1s but nothing about DD2s.
Im thinking we should just change it? I live her name and always imagined having a little girl with the name but wouldn’t want her to feel like her name is ugly or hate her name (I don’t like my name and get some annoying comments so wouldn’t want that). DH thinks I’m being silly and we live her name so that’s all that matters.
AIBU wanting to change it?
Her name is Leonora as I know people will be curious.

One of my DC has an unusual name and the first time you tell people they go 'Oh'. But after a few weeks and months the name really grows on people and I've had several belated compliments

laclochette · 08/01/2024 08:20

I think it's a beautiful name! And has so many lovely diminutive forms. Leo is a very cool nickname for a girl, so is Nora, not that the full name isn't beautiful too. I knew a Leonora once and the Lenor connection never occurred to me once.

PickledPegs · 08/01/2024 08:23

It’s a beautiful name. If you live it, don’t change it - you can’t live your life trying to do what everyone else wants.

sofedupandtiredofthis · 08/01/2024 08:24

When you said people ask if it's like the fabric softener I assumed you'd named her Comfort.

However Leonora is much nicer! I'd keep it 💜

rainingsnoring · 08/01/2024 08:27

Leonora is a beautiful name with a wonderful history and lots of nickname potential if she prefers when she is older. I very much doubt she will hate her name when she is older.

Butterandtoast · 08/01/2024 08:30

I know a Leonora 🙂 I've never once thought of the fabric softener when I've heard her name

XelaM · 08/01/2024 08:38

Wow usually on these types of threads the names are hideous, but Leonora is an absolutely gorgeous name!

NewUsernameIPresume · 08/01/2024 08:39

I prefer Leonora to Annabel! I would ignore everyone else and stick to your guns.

MrsMitford3 · 08/01/2024 08:41

I def think you are sleep deprived @TeddyBares (in the nicest possible way) so don't do anything you will regret with a good nights sleep.
You also may be looking back at early blissful days with PFB with rose tinted glasses.

I love the name Leonora-so pretty and so many options for NNs.
It goes beautifully with Annabel.
Annabel might be a more conventional name but Leonora equally lovely.

I also agree with PP that people like the waitress might say "what a pretty name" to oldest daughter to make conversation-I always make a point of fussing over older sibling when there is a baby.

Think you are reading way too much into it!

Fedupwithitx · 08/01/2024 08:41

I absolutely love the name Leonora!!!
A shame you don't hear it often as it's beautiful, however it's a plus it isn't overused.
I think defo keep it!

senua · 08/01/2024 08:43

I don't understand the mix-up.
The first syllable of the fabric conditioner is "Len".
The first syllables of the name are "Le-on".
Unless you are slurring, I don't see how they can be mistaken for each other. Rather than doubting your DD2's gorgeous name, push back and make out that the person saying 'fabric conditioner' is a numpty. That might shut them up!

(And well done for putting the name in the OP and not making us drag the information out of you.Grin )

MorningSunshineSparkles · 08/01/2024 08:43

I wouldn’t have connected Leonora to the fabric softener, it’s a beautiful name. Not one I’ve ever encountered either, I really wish I had though! Ignore anyone that doesn’t like it, it’s a lovely name and if you and your DP like it it’s all that matters

AllIsWellish · 08/01/2024 08:43

Both are lovely names and I think they go well together, there are plenty of choice of nn she can go by as well if she wants when older , leah, Lee, Leo, Nora .

JadeVS72 · 08/01/2024 08:47

Wow people are dicks to say that about fabric conditioner in reference to your new baby? I would quickly remove them from my life!
I haven't read all the comments but saw someone mentioned The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe, I also love this poem about Lenore:

"Despise the fickle fool my girl, who hath ta'en the pebble and spurned the pearl"
Got me through many a university heartbreak 😂

Ifeellikeateenageragain · 08/01/2024 08:47

OP, the "fabric softener" comments are just rude people. What, so we can't have Marigold, Dawn, Yasmin, Laura, Wendy, Charlotte etc because they've been brand names at some stage?

Leonora is beautiful - I have a friend with that name 😊

ACynicalDad · 08/01/2024 08:47

I read the title and dreaded something awful, it's a nice enough name, I think people stop talking about names a few months in, just ride it out, it's nice.

LakeTiticaca · 08/01/2024 08:50

Leonora is lovely and quiet old fashioned. I looked after 2 Leonoras as a carer years ago

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/01/2024 08:50

I think Leonora is lovely.

LeonoraFlorence · 08/01/2024 08:50

I also have a Leonora (can you tell?) and Annabelle is one of my other DDs middle names. I think it’s a beautiful name!

Lilsoph · 08/01/2024 08:51

Both your daughters have lovely names. Personally I wouldn't change Leonora, it’s a lovely child’s name but also an adult name, as is Annabel.

Channellingsophistication · 08/01/2024 08:53

Leonora is beautiful and unique. Annabel lovely too. Anyone who comments are not worth your worry honestly.

Nevermind31 · 08/01/2024 08:57

they are both nice names, but I wouldn’t be gushing over Annabelle. It is not that uncommon either, so I’m surprised that people comment on it do much.
Leonora I really like.

rainyskylight · 08/01/2024 08:58

I adore the name Leonora. I’d name by daughter Leonora but it’s a variation of my own name so would be a bit cheesy. Leonora is related to the Helena/Eleanor strand of names. A lovely variation on the classics!

Angrycat2768 · 08/01/2024 09:01

JingleSnowmanTree · 08/01/2024 00:47

I assumed it was Karen too!

if you want to go by another name, you can choose anything you like, it doesn't have to be your middle name. You don't have to do it by deed poll either.

but you do need to decide and be firm & positive about it, not wishy washy.

i wouldn't bat an eyelid at India though.

I would have guessed Isis!

Leonora is a lovely name and goes well with Annabelle.

Who even used fabric softener anymore?!

BricksTricks · 08/01/2024 09:04

Leonora is a lovely name. It doesn't sound like Lenor when it's said. You're being too sensitive on this one, don't change it.
