AIBU to expect a local sports club not to perform their warm up activities in my road?

I live in a very quiet cul-de-sac, and every so often, on a weekend, members of the local sports club (which has extensive land that could be used for such activities, I.e. not on pitches Etc.) carry out pre-match warm-ups down the middle of my road, while shouting loudly, for about 15 minutes at a time.
This sets off my security cameras, as they get very close to my drive, which is quite annoying as it sets off multiple alarms.
It’s a nuisance, and has the potential to be even more so if anyone needs to use their cars to access their driveways, but this also adds to the annoyance of visiting teams on a Sunday, when lazy parents park their cars right up to both corners of the main road, making it impossible to see what’s coming up or down the main road that our road is off, with huge potential for accidents.
So: YABU get over it!
or
YANBU it would drive me up the wall, too - complain to the club!

It's not 'your' road. It's a public road.

If things in the middle of the road are setting off your security system, how on earth do you cope with traffic?

Adjust the system or turn it off.

Caravaggiouch · 06/01/2024 13:29

You have alarms that go off if someone so much as gets near your drive?

dammit88 · 06/01/2024 13:32

If it's only every so often it wouldn't worry me.

ForeverYellow · 06/01/2024 13:32

Sorry , yes yabu .

I think you need to adjust your security settings. It’s weird to have them set off by something on the road.

user1477391263 · 06/01/2024 13:33

No residents’ parking for your area?

FuckingHellAdele · 06/01/2024 13:34

If it's a public road, it can be used by the public. Inconsiderate parking is annoying, but the rest of it wouldn't bother me.

My house is at the top of a great big hill. Groups from the local running club regularly pose for photos outside my front drive in a 'we made it!' manner. We try and photobomb from the windows now.

Seeline · 06/01/2024 13:35

Is it a private road?

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 06/01/2024 13:36

You sounds exactly like my mum!

There are things you can say to a parent that you wouldn’t to a stranger, so I’ll spare you the middle bit. The end is that she and her neighbors now have a private road…with worse miseries than the ones they previously had 😂

IglesiasPiggl · 06/01/2024 13:36

Was the sports club there when you moved in? Did you not check out match day traffic etc if so? You could ask them not to shout I suppose. Are the visiting teams parking illegally? If so then you can take that up with the club, but if not then they are allowed to park there.

JMSA · 06/01/2024 13:37

I'm not sure this would even appear on my radar.
I'd probably be thinking 'good on them' while I scoff another chocolate Blush

TeeBee · 06/01/2024 13:38

Just keep driving your car out when they do it, and then drive back in again 2 minutes later. Then back out again...ad infinitum, until they move.

RoseAndRose · 06/01/2024 13:38

How many people and for how long?

It's pretty shitty (and very un-neighbourly) to cause a nuisance such as this. And if they're literally on the road they are very much in the wrong.

But I think you should adjust your home security devices to keep their "reach" closer to your perimeter, as tat would remove some of the annoyance.

Also I'd talk to the neighbours and find out if others find it a PITA as well. If so, then you can act together in requesting the club move its warm up

Fionaville · 06/01/2024 13:39

Who was there first, the houses or the sports club?
We have a massive sports field near us. It was there before our house was built. The road is filled with cars every Sunday. We don't complain as it was there first. Same with people who buy a house next to a pub, then complain about the noise.
I think people doing a warm up in the road is acceptable. It's just people living their lives in a public place, they aren't being offensive or inconsiderate.

TinkerTiger · 06/01/2024 13:39

Sorry, don't believe your camera set off 'multiple alarms', they'd go off all the time!

bendypines · 06/01/2024 13:41

If it's a public road, it can be used by the public.

Yes - for its intended purpose, which is a road. Not some sort of parade ground exercise area.

I think you need to adjust your security settings. It’s weird to have them set off by something on the road.

But how else could you spy on the neighbours?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 06/01/2024 13:42

How on earth does their health and safety procedures allow this and do their members not have common sense either - it’s a public road for vehicles is it not?

Livefornow · 06/01/2024 13:43

You are conflegating two separate issues. If your alarms are being set off by people standing in the road then you have a serious issue to sort out. Get the settings put right and that issue will end.

With regard to away teams parking, I have sympathy but that is the reality of living somewhere in proximity to a sports field or complex. The council may be willing to get involved if parking is really dangerous but it will depend on frequency that it happens.

Riverlee · 06/01/2024 13:44

How often is ‘every so often’? Once a month, not a problem. Weekly is too often.

Toottooot · 06/01/2024 13:44

Do they also use your home address as their delivery address?

RiaLia · 06/01/2024 13:44

YABU. change your camera settings they are not even on your drive.

PotterHead1985 · 06/01/2024 13:45

My take. First, adjust your security settings. They sound too sensitive unless I'm missing something.

They can use the road (assuming public) for warm-up. Annoying as all hell I well know, but not in the wrong. However, should you or your neighbours need to go in or out of your drives They should move sharpish and not cause obstruction.

With regards the parking. If they are parking dangerously- you mention close to the end of the road- and obstructing views of oncoming traffic/pedestrians etc, report to the relevant authorities as you would in normal circumstances. You could also have a friendly word with the local club and get them to mention to the visiting teams about where is not safe/legal to park, but you might not get anywhere with that because even if they do say something, some folks can be a law unto themselves and not give a shiny shite.

Spinet · 06/01/2024 13:45

This would get right on my tits I have to admit. All that physical posturing and shouting sounds annoying and a bit intimidating of it's blokes which I've no doubt it is. Especially if they have a sports ground to do it in!

I also think it's a public road and unfortunately irritation has no power in the law. You could ring up and ask nicely if they could not do it as it's disturbing you though. They ought to want to keep the neighbours sweet since presumably there are things they may want to do that they need your cooperation for.

Livefornow · 06/01/2024 13:47

Neriah · 06/01/2024 13:42

But how else could you spy on the neighbours?

There are clear rules on what may be covered by security cameras. A neighbour of my late mother set his camera so he could spy, until he was visited by the police in a marked car who advised him what he was entitled to cover. He was really embarrassed and it did nothing to help him and his wife blend into the neighbourhood.
