AIBU to expect a local sports club not to perform their warm up activities in my road?

I live in a very quiet cul-de-sac, and every so often, on a weekend, members of the local sports club (which has extensive land that could be used for such activities, I.e. not on pitches Etc.) carry out pre-match warm-ups down the middle of my road, while shouting loudly, for about 15 minutes at a time.
This sets off my security cameras, as they get very close to my drive, which is quite annoying as it sets off multiple alarms.
It’s a nuisance, and has the potential to be even more so if anyone needs to use their cars to access their driveways, but this also adds to the annoyance of visiting teams on a Sunday, when lazy parents park their cars right up to both corners of the main road, making it impossible to see what’s coming up or down the main road that our road is off, with huge potential for accidents.
So: YABU get over it!
or
YANBU it would drive me up the wall, too - complain to the club!

The more community activities taking place, the better, and I'd absolutely support this happening on my road.

Toottooot · 06/01/2024 13:48

What exactly are they doing on the road? Are they causing major disruption to the residents and traffic flow or risking injury to themselves?

I may be imagining what this is wrongly. But if it's a group of large men aggressively shouting to advertise their physical prowess (even mock aggressively which is effectively just as aggressive) this does not sound like a nice inclusive community event I would want in my road. It sounds like the kind of thing that would make my teenage daughters not want to leave the house until it's over.

Admittedly it may be a shouty running thing that is not that, but I'm struggling to imagine it if so.

OP says parents of visiting teams park nearby.

Therefore I would assume we are talking about children or teenagers. Not "a group of large men".

Unreasonable about the practice, not about the lazy parents, campaign for parking restrictions by your local council.

Goodlard · 06/01/2024 14:01

You actually own the road?

Wooloohooloo · 06/01/2024 17:10

Are they actually doing anything illegal or prohibited by the Highway Code?

dinglyping · 06/01/2024 17:15

What time of day? Does it wake you up?

LightSwerve · 06/01/2024 17:19

Agree your camera needs sorting, it is antisocial to film the road.

If they are not doing anything illegal, just ignore.

anothernamechangeagainsndagain · 06/01/2024 17:31

I would be urgently going out in the car every week 2 minutes after they start, they'll get the message

If it's a public road, it can be used by the public. Inconsiderate parking is annoying, but the rest of it wouldn't bother me.

My house is at the top of a great big hill. Groups from the local running club regularly pose for photos outside my front drive in a 'we made it!' manner. We try and photobomb from the windows now.

This made me laugh - our running club often use a loop of the local estate roads to train and play speed games. Part of the loop passes a row of bungalows and in the summer evenings we regularly have residents cheering, photobombing us, and kids running alongside us. I hope we don't annoy anyone...

Unfortunately OP, although it might be a bit annoying, if they're not actually behaving unsociably or dangerously, there's nothing you can do if they're on a public road.

Reugny · 06/01/2024 18:02

You are reasonable to ask the club to sort out their visitors parking. Just point out that the 0srkinhbis endangering everyone including children attending the events.

You are unreasonable about your cameras. Make them less sensitive.

Also it is likely in your own interests to befriend the people who run the club house. I have been a member of two sports clubs with different facilities the one that had a club house was used by local residents as a place to drop into and since it's been done up as a place to hold their events.

SoIRejoined · 06/01/2024 20:36

Don't be ridiculous! You can solve this problem by changing the settings on your own alarm system. If you have "multiple alarms" set to trigger when people come near your drive then you are going to get disturbed, aren't you! If the parking is illegal then report to the police.

Murdoch1949 · 06/01/2024 21:33

15 minutes, every so often? Not an issue. Go to the back rooms of your house. Put on music. Distract yourself for 15 minutes. You make yourself sound like a curtain twitcher, looking out for their arrival.

Livefornow · 06/01/2024 21:43

Yet another thread where the OP never answers any questions. I strongly suspect it is not a private road, she doesn't actually own it, and that the sensors have been set completely incorrectly.

Loving the photobombing!! 😂

CatamaranViper · 06/01/2024 21:53

Tbf the sports club I am a volunteer coach for has problems with loads of neighbours and locals complaining about bad parking when matches are on. So much in fact that we now block off perfectly legal parking spaces with cones in order to "make peace". All it has done is push the problem further along and annoy different residents.

Complain away but there will be a reason they're using a quiet road for warm ups and there is only so much they can do about bad parking

LakeTiticaca · 06/01/2024 22:00

Sounds bloody annoying tbh. Have you asked them why they don't use their fields?

Nsky62 · 06/01/2024 22:05

I’d be asking why, please stop

musicforthesoul · 06/01/2024 22:05

You need to sort your cameras out, things in the middle of the road shouldn't set them off.

If it's really causing lots of disruption and talking to them gets you nowhere I'd suggest you and your neighbours get a sudden need to go in and out of your driveways during the time they are there, they'll soon find somewhere else if they can't do their warmup properly due to traffic.

FishTheRiver · 06/01/2024 22:09

I don't think YABU - it would annoy me too.

Parents are mentioned and I assumed straight away it was a kids club

You are massively protecting

Questions5664 · 06/01/2024 22:15

Theres probably nothing stopping them from walking/shouting/whatever in the road, but I think I would find myself somewhere to need to drive at the same time, every week, perhaps forgetting something after a minute or two and coming back......

I assumed straight away from the op that a sports club with 'extensive land' is an adults club with a kids team whose annoying parents park on OP's street on Sundays.

Since the op hasn't confirmed either way we're both projecting aren't we.

Though I'm not afraid to admit that a kids team doing this would annoy me as well because of both the noise and the fact it's probably the adults leading it showing off (given they have other non-public places they can do this).

Either way I think a friendly call to the club is perfectly appropriate.

To drive on.

It is not a sporting pitch or an oval
