To think Easter 'Advent' calendars are just....

....wrong???? I saw some 'Countdown to Easter' calendars for sale in a shop here in Lagos. You open a door and get a bit of chocolate for each day. I mean, that's against the whole idea of Lent, surely? I'm not BU, am I?

no you are NOT BU

it's MADNESS

dustyeastar · 17/03/2008 16:38

I've never seen them but agree with you.

Good old Hallmark (or Nigerian equivalent)

suedonim · 17/03/2008 16:47

I was so astounded that I didn't look to see who the manufacturer is, but I'm sure it's a European one as it had little bunny-wunnies cavorting among the primroses, neither of which are much in evidnece here.

Fucking ridiculous

claricebeansmum · 17/03/2008 16:51

Sainsbury's (UK!!) have Easter crackers

(type you pull, not biscuits)

MaryAnnSmotheredinchocolate · 17/03/2008 16:52

complete madness

tortoiseSHELL · 17/03/2008 16:52

Ha, you should see what the good old Church of England came up with last year and this year - 'LOVE LIFE, LIVE LENT' - all about enjoying Lent. Certainly last year they forgot to mention Jesus...

morningpaper · 17/03/2008 16:52

I saw the easter crackers and was tempted

But the 'advent calendar' thing is just NASTY

what next, Easter stockings? Easter trees with presents under on easter morning?

Buda · 17/03/2008 16:54

The supermarket here is still trying to get rid of the Shrek advent calendars that have a teabag for every day of advent!

suedonim · 17/03/2008 16:59

Lol @ Buda! The same shop is still flogging selection boxes from last Christmas.

We're coming home on leave on Thursday and I was wondering what sort of UK we're coming back to - Easter calendars, crackers, stocking, hehehe. The world's gone mad.

2shoesistheeasterbunny · 17/03/2008 17:05

YA....100%.....NBU

Taweret · 17/03/2008 17:06

What Moondog said.

sparklyfairypie · 17/03/2008 17:31

i don't see anything wrong with it...if people want to waste thier money on it then good for them lol

MrsSchadenfreude · 17/03/2008 19:29

Surely if it was a genuine Nigerian one, it would be bush rats (before they end up as suya on the stand on the Awolowo Road) cavorting amongst the rubbish palm trees?

Ah! Ah! You am not bein unreasonable Auntie.
Happy Easter in Advance. (Do they still say that?)

cupsoftea · 18/03/2008 09:04

happy hallowean - happy easter - happy april fools day .........

casbie · 18/03/2008 10:02

weird!

suedonim · 18/03/2008 12:19

No one's said Happy Easter in Advance, MrsS. But my driver assures me the rainy season hasn't started yet, despite the deluges we're getting. Apparently, it's just 'raining' at the moment, lol!!

BTW, you'd be shocked at all the changes here. Gerard Rd/Alexander Ave is being made into a dual carriageway, with all those gorgeous old trees being felled.

Silly idea.
YANBU

ecoworrier · 18/03/2008 12:45

Horrible idea. But then I really disliked all the 'Advent' calendars I saw before Christmas that counted down to... New Year!

suedonim · 18/03/2008 15:30

New Year?? Good grief.....

OP posts:
Smithagain · 18/03/2008 20:44

Sainsbury's also has Easter Stollen. Erm, that'll be the traditional CHRISTMAS cake from Germany. Which has sod all to do with spring, new life, resurrection, bunnies or anything else anyone might associate with this time of year.

Maybe it's just some stale old stuff they had left over from December
