Bleeding in between periods

posting For traffic

since my second child, I’ve had some mid cycle spotting, but a tiny tiny amount, like a red or pink speck fine, but it down as ovulation bleeding.

a few months ago, I had almost a mini period still a lot lighter than an actual period, and it was quite dark with a few dark clots. Period came 2 weeks later

paid private and saw a gynae, by then the mid cycle bleeding stopped. She did an exam, and I had a cervical bruise, she said these things can shed sometimes and cause light spotting and bleeding after sex. Took swabs- all normal. Everything else looked normal. Wasn’t sure, if the bruise would cause heavy spotting and with clots, said to monitor as it might be a one off. Fine- I went on my merry way.

now mid cycle and the light bleeding with clots, dark blood (more blackish than brown old blood) is back.

i do have a follow up appointment in March but in the mean time has anyone else had this sort of thing?

oh and my youngest is 2 and still breastfeeding… 4 maybe 5 times a day if under the weather.

any one else has this? What was it? Are there other tests I should ask for?

I think clots are dark not due to them being old but as they are concentrated.

I have the last 3 months had 2 periods a month, I'm assuming it's menopause starting (I'm 44) So you could ask for a blood test for menopause. It's good you have been checked by a gyne, if you find any answers I would be interested in hearing them, in case I should be getting checked. TIA.

I’m 33, and had my amh checked a few years ago and it was 43 (which apparently is a high ovarian reserve) not sure if that relates to menopause?

Following, as I've just had bleeding days 17- 19 of my cycle, and it has really unnerved me.

Today I had a blood clot from my back passage but hoping that's completely unrelated.

Are you on any contraception. I used to bleed like this with the pill and the implant.

The continued breastfeeding may well cause the mid cycle spotting. Have you kept a diary of what cycle days it appears? If it’s a pattern, it’s far more likely to be hormonal. Any info given on how long the cervical bruise would take to rectify? I presume it’s not permanent.

the bruise (that’s the layman’s term) there was a proper one, she said is caused by progesterone and seen a lot in younger women she didn’t say it would heal naturally, theres a minor procedure where she said it could be burned or frozen off if it continued to bother me so I assume then it won’t go away naturally?

Hey OP,

did you ever find out what caused the bleeding?

Katemax82 · 01/11/2024 08:18

A few years ago when I was still breastfeeding my (3 year old!) Son I kept bleeding, I had several investigations and the only thing they found was I was low on folic acid. I got tablets and it stopped eventually

BabyCloud · 01/11/2024 08:31

Could be an ectropian. I have one on my cervix although it’s never made me bleed I know that they can be the cause for others.

This was it, apparently it’s very common in young women of reproductive age

Glad you found out what it was. You did the right thing by insisting on it being checked thoroughly.

I had this when I finished breastfeeding my toddler, I was 31. Presumed it was down to hormones changing after BF but after several months I had it investigated (don’t leave it as long as I did) and was found to have polyps which were causing it. They were removed and the problem went away.

I’m going to go again as been having spotting week before period but the consultant was pretty thorough
