I have been off work now for 5 days with this horrible cough that I have had for the past month. It gets a bit better but then it strikes again and I feel so tired and breathless at times.
I have been to the doctor any they have referred me for a chest X ray.
I feel so anxious as I have had cancer (5 years ago) and one of the symptoms of the cancer recurring is a lingering cough. I can't get this thought out of my mind.
I do feel better after resting for the past 5 days the cough is still there but not as bad.
Should I ask my GP for a sick note? Or am I just be silly because of my previous diagnosis and fearing the worst?

YANBU if you still don't feel great then ask for a sick note.
Hope you feel better soon

Look after yourself and your colleagues and get a sicknote
I think you will be too distracted to work safely, don’t you?
so sorry this is happening xxx

Yes, you will feel guilty, probably for as long as you are off with your cough.
But if made a mistake because you went in when you knew you couldn’t give your clients 100% you would feel far worse for far longer and the consequences will be much more severe.
Take care of yourself first Lovely, then everyone and everything else xx

Take a sick note from the doctor until you find out the results of your xray. Don't feel guilty, health comes before money, friendship etc. Hope everything is OK x
I was ill few years back with blood clots on my lungs had to take around 2 months off work, they weren't arsed, always had zoom meetings to see "how i was" always wanted to know when I'm coming back, look after number 1!!! X

I've just recovered and on week 9. I went back after one week and it really prolonged my recovery. And I don't have relevant medical history. Its also pretty infectious. Make a drs appointment as you probably need antibiotics and a check over. It's apparently whopping cough if that provides any reassurance but I've never felt so ill

@Snugglewuggle25 how long did it take for you to receive your X ray results? I read that it can take up to 2 weeks. I hate waiting for results get so anxious.

@easilydistracted1 GP didn't think it was a chest infection so no antibiotics needed. I was hoping it was a chest infection at least then it would be treated just hate not knowing what it is and always feel as if GP thinks I am over reacting.

I had xray on Friday afternoon, but took myself to hospital on Sunday and hospital had the results. But I was told they would take around a week for results x
