To just walk out my council house.

I hate despise this flat.
I’ve ended up in an adapted property with a wet room.
It’s riddled with damp because of the wet room, I’ve spent thousands on painting and decorating, carpeting when I moved in to make it nice. I fled DV, after less than 2 years it’s all had to come up and be replaced.
Wet room is being “repaired” but I don’t hold much hope.
I’ve no worktops, 4 kitchen cupboards and no space whatsoever and I’ve just had enough. I only realised the further adaptations when comparing my flat to my neighbours and I just feel like walking out. Communal hallway also stinks of cigarettes which comes into my home, HA are aware and have done nothing but send letters out. Despite it being a communal hallway an inspectors also said that the other tenants are okay to smoke cigarettes as it’s not illegal. It might not be illegal but I can’t open my windows cos it comes in all the bedrooms. DD’s stinks so bad of fags she’s in with me and that’s with the window closed.

Im so miserable, the wet room stinks, my shoes and bags have always got mould in. Im on the mutual exchange but no one wants flats and I can’t get a managed move, property is 2 beds and I’m “adequately housed”
I even asked if the housing association had a special register for adapted properties but they don’t.
I can’t afford private rented and wouldn’t pass a credit check due to my ex getting me in debt.

I don’t know what to do, I’m sick of phoning the housing association, sick of being upset and seeing plaster and paint just fall off the wall. I’m at my wits end and I feel like I’m trapped in this place.

I'll keep saying it because it's the only thing that works- to to the media. I've posted the like here before showing how bad the yard at my flats was - it was spotless and rat free within 48 hours of going to the local papers.

It's shit and a total invasion of privacy but it's the only thing that worked for me and I bet it would in this case too.

Hello everyone!

A final and happy update. I get my keys to my new house on Wednesday!

It is private rented however the landlord is the same as my mums, she’s absolutely lovely and my mums been in hers since 2012.

I had a damp inspection (9th!) on the 27th and they told me it’s surface moisture blah blah blah blah usual shit.
Phoning up first thing tomorrow morning to fill out an end of tenancy form.
I am so happy I could cry, thank you for those on here who’ve followed with the best advice or even just affirming that I’m not in the wrong to complain.

And if Jigsaw Homes ever pick up this thread, big massive fat FUCK YOU!!!!!

Fucking brilliant news. And Jigsaw will probably struggle to rent it out which is what they deserve

They absolutely will.

They will just stick another tenant in there. People on the housing lists don't get to be choosy.

SansOgm · 15/06/2025 20:38

Congratulations, that is such good news.

CuteOrangeElephant · 15/06/2025 20:57

Congratulations OP!

Wow I am stunned ! and so pleased for you !!!

It's 18 months since you first started this thread.

I hope you are very happy in your new home.

Is it near your Mum ?
what is it like - without saying where it is.

CoconutSky · 16/06/2025 14:38

I’m on my mums road 🤣 same area, closer to DD’s school. It’s a dream

This flat now will go on the homeless nominations, the blocks a shit hole, there’s no kitchen space and all the plug sockets are on one side so there is now completely 0 worktop. Plus they’ve stuck fans in all the windows so you can’t have blinds up, combine all that with the fact the passive air vents they installed for mould (that don’t work) are letting the smell of cannabis in from my scruffy walking dead neighbours then there’s absolutely no way this could go to general bidding.

One was empty just after I moved in and it got turned down 4 times because people who were offered it drove down and saw the anti social behaviour occurring. Jigsaw still did zilch about it.
I do feel bad for whatever person ends up here though, cos after the battle I’ve had fuck me, if they’re not in a position to move out themselves then it’ll be their home indefinitely.

Well done @CoconutSky made up for you!

Oceangrey · 16/06/2025 23:00

Wow, I'm so happy for you! You deserve a lovely place after putting up with all that.

Oceangrey · 16/06/2025 23:06

Interesting to note that Jigsaw Homes do not seem to have a single person on their Board who has experience in social housing, housing associations, housing operations full stop.
I am on the Board of another housing association and if I'd seen a thread like this relating to our organisation I'd be asking some very serious questions. There are always issues and things that are not possible to completely resolve, and budgets and staffing are difficult, but it's just sounded completely negligent.

Thepollonator · 16/06/2025 23:23

Congratulations op, I'm so pleased for you. Hope you'll be very happy in your new home x

SlightlyJaded · 16/06/2025 23:46

I am SO bloody pleased for you. Enjoy your new home. Dry kitchen, worktop, plug sockets and all :)

WaryHiker · 17/06/2025 00:45

I've been following this one from the beginning. I'm really sorry that you've had to go through all this and live in such a hell hole. But I'm so happy for you that it's all worked out!

Castellanos · 20/06/2025 20:53

Really pleased for you OP, though sorry you've lost what should have been a secure and safe tenancy. I really hope it works out and the new place is as secure as your mum's tenancy seems to have been. It doed sound perfect, all things considered.

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 21/06/2025 08:18

I'm really pleased for you!
