I've been having these symptoms for a couple of weeks. I will feel fine and then suddenly feel sick and sometimes violently shake with it too (teeth chattering etc..). It feels like I'm going to vomit but I never do. This gradually wears off but can last for a little while before it does. It happens at any time of day or night and has been stopping me sleeping. In between these episodes I feel my usual self and can eat, go about my day etc.. it doesn't feel like a bug to me.

I visited the GP today as its been going on for a couple of weeks and no one else in the house (DH and 3 DC) are ill so thought surely not a bug.

They took BP readings which were apparently a little high but not a concern (180 / 70 - I'm 29) and then said it's probably viral and come back in a few weeks if no change.

I thought I would at least be offered a blood test or something given the symptoms and the fact no one else is unwell.

Aibu if not gone by this time next week to go back and ask for a blood test instead of leaving it for weeks?

This is how blood tests work- they take some of your blood and check for any abnormalities which can help with a diagnosis. It’s a medical procedure that says ‘what it is you are actually suffering with’. There’s nothing magical about it. I’ve known someone with similar sounding symptoms who had actually been exposed to a toxin. Now have a little guess how the doctors diagnosed it?

Yes but A GP would not rush to order a specialist tests based on the symptoms. I was asking if op had something in mind because, at best, a GP would only order routine blood tests, none of which would show up an exposure to a toxin.

180/70 is extremely high - was that the average of three readings? Or just one of three? Or the only one taken?

Well last night was the worst of all, I'd had my usual spells during the day of feeling sick and shaking and then when I went to bed I started feeling very 'weird'. I was shaking and it felt like my heart was fluttering and it was like I couldn't get enough breath. I convinced myself this morning it was just a panic attack but it was
very scary, i honestly thought I might be dying and nearly rang an ambulance.

It was just 1 reading they took at the GP.

I have no idea if it's related either but I have a couple of tattoos I got years ago that all raised up and went itchy when I had this turn last night which was very weird. Never had a problem with them before and they are years old.

So now feeling unsure as to whether this is a new symptom and i should go back or whether I'm just causing myself to panic about the existing ones.

How are you now op?

Basilsage · 14/01/2024 13:57

The 180 score for BP was concerning

TooBusyGazingAtStarss · 14/01/2024 14:05

OP I hope you're okay. If you haven't gone back to the doctors yet, I would get in ASAP
