Help with a sleep solution

hello!

I’ve never been the best sleeper but have over the last few years built up a bedtime routine that works for me. The main component is that I need an audiobook on very quietly in the background. It has to be quite a specific genre - I go for short detective stories that I already know as it’s just enough to stop my thoughts racing without being engaging enough for me to stay awake listening to.

I have used audible on my phone up until now but now I would really like to stop having my phone in the bedroom overnight. It isn’t doing me any good looking at it before bed and as soon as I wake up.

What I really want is something like an adult version of a tonie box 😂 does such a thing exist? I know there is probably a solution with an old fashioned tape or cd player, but can these be put on a timer so that it automatically turns off after 40 minutes or so?

I don’t know much about how Alexas work, would that do it? Can you link it to audible?

hoping someone has had a similar problem in the past and solved it!

Ooh following as I can only fall asleep with podcasts on in the background and could do without sleeping in ear buds.

RNIB sell stand alone talking book readers with sleep timers. You could ask them if you can purchase one from them.

Have you seen those pillow bar speaker things? It’s a flat sort of speaker that you slide in the back of your pillowcase and it’s supposed to be better than earbuds. I considered it before but I think it needs to be controlled by a phone so it doesn’t solve my problem but might be good for you!

I love my sleepphones. I leave my phone downstairs and Bluetooth is good enough to be picked up by the sleep phones when I'm in bed. I cam start/stop and chnage volume from sleep phones. I use libby app as its free from library

My kids have yoto players and you bmget make your own cards, I've toyed with the idea of copying my audible catalogue onto a card and using their cards. I usually just cast to our Google dot though. Which is also an option as you could cast and leave the phone downstairs I think.

A yoto player might work? You can get blank cards and link them to your own content.

Look up voxblock as well actually they look very interesting although their adult library is limited to classics currently
