The Christmas decorations I mean.

I'm just sitting here looking at them and thinking about how it's almost 12th Night, New Year is over etc. etc. and it's nearly time to take everything down and I realise I can't actually be arsed.
They aren't actually in my way. They look pretty and cheery. The weather is foul and everyone is ill and/or miserable. Why not just leave them until next month - or until it snows?
(So I can get some proper festive pics of my outdoor lights 😂)

Its such a bland miserable time of year. I want my pretty winter lights and sparkles up a bit longer.

Candlemas anyone?

I really think I'm gonna do it. Who's with me? Let's keep the festive cheer going 🎄

My tree will be coming down at the weekend but I’m leaving some fairy lights up until it’s not so dark and depressing.

NeverTrustAPoliceman · 02/01/2024 13:51

Most decs down. Fairy lights in the lounge will stay up until at least Easter.

I think the law allows you to do whatever you like OP, if you are enjoying them then leave them up.

Catza · 02/01/2024 13:51

I am taking mine down mid Jan. They are indor decorations. I am giving my neighbour with his flashing outdoor display until the weekend. I've been "enjoying" flashing lights through my bedroom window till 2am for way too long.

StamppotAndGravy · 02/01/2024 13:52

I leave them up until candlemass, apart from anything that says Christmas on or has a santa. Plenty of places have that tradition, so it's not wildly inappropriate

wineandmaltesershappyme · 02/01/2024 13:53

All my decorations are down but i am shopping for some all year round fairy lights etc to pretty things up a bit

Willywanker1 · 02/01/2024 13:53

I felt the same a few years ago so bought some lights from cable and cotton which stay up all year. Also have a neon sign and other nice lighting and candles which make everything much nicer in winter. Take the decs down and treat yourself to some permanent festive lights

Backinthedress · 02/01/2024 14:05

I still had fairy lights up from last Christmas. Made decorating super speedy this year ;)

The tree will come down, and the decorative ornaments, but I'm leaving the lights <raps gavel>

YouveGotAFastCar · 02/01/2024 14:08

There's a couple of houses not far from me that keep their Christmas decorations up through the Winter months... but to be honest, exposure will lessen the impact. You'll get used to them and they won't brighten up your house anymore. They give you a boost now because they are pretty and twinkly and different - if they're always there, you won't get that.

You don't really notice the nice twinkly lights on the houses nearby anymore. We used to, it used to mark the start of December when they'd get all glittery and twinkly and pretty, and someone would mention it every time we walked past. Now they're just lit up houses and I don't think any of us do more than glance, we're so used to the lights now.

spottydinosaur · 02/01/2024 14:11

Mine down today. Want the job done & the house back to normal!

FestiveFruitloop · 02/01/2024 14:11

I'm leaving them up till the weekend at the earliest, and considering doing Candlemas. I'm still enjoying them, and they give me a real mood boost (I suffer from SAD), so not in any rush to take them down.

TraumatisedatChristmas1986 · 02/01/2024 14:18

Mine always stay up until January 6th, or Epiphany (when the 3 Wise Men arrived at the stable). I will leave some lights up for a while....I get fed up of the dark.

Totally with you in the flashing lights. No need for it. Horrible things

Do it.

Some people have them up from mid November through til boxing day. A good 6 weeks.

I'm leaving the faury lights up til candlemas (I did last year) but taking down tree and red and gold stuff down at 12th night.

I have permanent ones too. Fairy lights and tru glow electric candles all year round. Although I have fewer permanent fairy lights than I used to and more candles. I have candelabrum and wall sconces everywhere lol.
It's not the same to me as the Christmas stuff. Probably because I do have them year round as normal decor.

Yeah. I was thinking I might put the Father Christmases away. And the sleigh. Maybe the Christmas cards too.

That would drive me crazy. I like a different approach. I'd buy some nice candles or wax burner, some nice flowers and create a different ambience. Having said that we have twinkly lights throughout the year. One ine a glass vase and another over a mirror.

And why not.

Last Year I put my tree lights along my windowsill and onto my unit the TV is above.
I put them on of a winter evening ... Not so much in Spring or Summer but sometimes put them on for a nice glow

I've always resisted the November Christmas tree. It will never happen in my house!

I took all of ours down yesterday and it feels nice to get back to normal (even though I LOVE decorating the house for Christmas). Once the season is over I want to look forward, to Spring, to longer days, to the early bulbs coming out.

I will still have candles though. And my husband is currently lighting fires in the hall and sitting room!!

Oh I dunno about ALL winter lol.
The truth is, in a few weeks I may well change my mind again and take it all down. But for now there's no rush. I'm still enjoying it.

I’ll take the tree down on epiphany because it’s slightly in the way but we have fairy lights up on our living room ceiling year round and I’m thinking about also leaving up the sets we’ve put on the stairs and fireplace. I’ve also put some flowers in this week’s supermarket delivery to make the place look a bit more cheery.

Coastalcreeksider · 02/01/2024 14:39

Mine all came down today, I'm advertising surplus decorations on Freecycle, hopefully I'll get rid of them otherwise I'll see if charity shops will take them.

Lounge looks a bit bare but much tidier and if I need something cheery in there later on, I'll light the log burner.

Sounds good. 👍🏼😁 And yes, if the tree is in your way I get that. I'd want it down too. Luckily mine isn't really.

I'm taking everything down on Saturday, except the tree.

I'm would like it to stay until candlemass as have birthday in Jan and it will give some cheer. However it is real...

Notquitegrownup2 · 02/01/2024 14:51

We leave ours up for a while. I'm with you, ours go up in the second half of December so I like to have a months worth of twinkles.

We did have a neighbour come around one year to see if we'd died of carbon monoxide poisoning, as they couldn't understand why else we would still have a tree in the dining window!!
