to want to re-name our house Squirrels Leap?

My husband thinks I am, he says its twee! Our house is named after trees that no longer exist, and I want something nice. Am I being unreasonable? If so (and I probably am as he doesnt agree) then what can we call it?

The Old Rectory! That would be hilarious on a 1955 bungalow, not a church in sight. I've got a very good cheesey one. Manderlay. Eughghghhg. There is a house in my town name this. How disgraceful.

QOD · 17/03/2008 19:56

OH OH as I "posted" I remembered...
Fairford

it's not near a Fair or a Ford

quarkee · 17/03/2008 19:59

or an RAF airbase??!

WanderingTrolley · 17/03/2008 20:00

Cali is that Welsh for Panty Fanjo?

Moomin · 17/03/2008 20:01

My dad's neighbour's house is called "Bellend".

I am NOT joking. He doesn't see anything wrong with it.

(Neither does my dad, but there again my dad's numberplate has the letters MUF on it which me and my brother are still sniggering about aged 38 and 40).

Favourite holiday destinations are often a popular choice of name, I have noticed.
How about Bognor. Or Skegness.

stealthsquiggle · 17/03/2008 22:45

Our naff and soon-as-we-get-round-to-it to be changed house name has that derivation, Rosa (but not UK seaside)

Having read this lot, I am now thanking relevant deities for small mercies!

RosaIsRed · 17/03/2008 23:00

I bet it's Amalfi, Stealthsquiggle. Am I close?

BarcodeZebra · 17/03/2008 23:11

I call my house Number 1. I saw it used somewhere else and really liked it so I changed it from number one to Number 1 and it's made so much difference to my life. I no longer feel suicidally depressed and both my children started to sleep through the night. My wife and I both got 100% raises at work and a reduction in our hours.

Oh and we won the lottery too. I thank the good Lord that I did it.

PS I'm thinking of getting one of those cast iron signs with an oak tree on it just to set it off. classy.

RosaIsRed · 17/03/2008 23:14

Wouldn't No One be even better though? Then you could say that No One's home.

BarcodeZebra · 17/03/2008 23:18

You are FAR too alert for this time of night.

stealthsquiggle · 18/03/2008 09:50

right country, Rosa!

SoupDreggon · 18/03/2008 12:27

My house is called Decleigh. I can't help thinking that Declan and Leigh lived here at one point. Sadly the fecking screws have rusted and I can't get the nameplate off.

I want to rename it The Beech House as I have a huuuuge old beech tree at the end of my garden and I want a beach house.

toffetoes · 18/03/2008 12:38

theres an old peoples residence place in Leic called Squirrels Leap it makes me think of that!

SoupDreggon · 18/03/2008 12:54

Thinking about it, Fanjo's Rest is a rather more explicit version of Dunroamin' isn't it? Perhaps Dunbreedin' is another option.

RosaIsRed · 18/03/2008 15:20

I think I shall rename the Luxembourg residence Duncleanin

Threadworm · 18/03/2008 15:21

And the Wormery I shall rename Havntduncleanin

Swedes · 18/03/2008 15:21

Do you mean squirrels or do you mean grey vermin?

MrsBadger · 18/03/2008 15:23

Dunspawnin

quarkee · 18/03/2008 15:27

Surely a Luxembourg residence should be called Duntaxing?

Monkeybird · 26/03/2008 22:09
