to want to re-name our house Squirrels Leap?

My husband thinks I am, he says its twee! Our house is named after trees that no longer exist, and I want something nice. Am I being unreasonable? If so (and I probably am as he doesnt agree) then what can we call it?

TFT, you do know they are taking the piss, no?

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 13:23

LOL yes, they are indeed taking the piss. Nothing like the harsh reality of Mnet to strike all visions of cute house names from your mind and set you on the straight and narrow! My post is toung in cheek (now theres a good house name) however, we are thinking of changing and it is incredably difficult. You do have to get permissio from the council as well.

This is from the council web site:

If you wish to name or rename your property you will need to put your request in writing to the SN&N team, althernatively you can use the request form on the Street Naming Page. All such requests should be accompanied by a plan to enable location of the property, especially if the property is located in a rural area.

Records are checked to establish that the preferred house name is not duplicated within the immediate area ? more than one Rose Cottage within the same street could lead to serious implications for the emergency services!

You could name it after your favourite book. There is a house in the next village to us called Lorna Doone.
What about Moby Dick? Or (One flew over the) Cuckoo's Nest?

Blu · 17/03/2008 13:42

The Laurel Stumps?
Squirrels Rot? (with ref to Taipos helpful post)
Not The Laurels
The Felled Laurels
Stan Laurel's
NorraLorraLaurels

Fimbo · 17/03/2008 13:46

There is a house in my village called Phyltone.

Hideous.

stealthsquiggle · 17/03/2008 13:50

PMSL at "The Laurel Stumps"

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 13:51

You can change the house's name! Unless it's Blenheim or somewhere. My brother and SIL moved into a house called Lourdes. It had been called Lourdes for 70 yrs. They didn't give a rats. As soon as they moved inthey got the sledgehammer out to knock off the Lourdes before they had the kettle on. Who could blame them?! I'd pick Squirrel's Leap over Lourdes though!

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 13:56

What did they change it too?

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:01

They called it Cremore. Our Granddad used to live in a house called Cremore, so they recycled (some more).

newgirl · 17/03/2008 14:05

is it a cute cottage

what about squirrel cottage

if it is a 50s bungalow that one might not wash

then you may have to go for squirelea

TwoFirTreesToday · 17/03/2008 14:09

OP posts:
MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:10

Squirelea! That sounds like a low-fat spread.

MadameCh0let · 17/03/2008 14:12

The Love Dungeon

I Luv the Postie (who will then expect a big Christmas bonus)
HMP Laurel
HMS Laurel
AIBU Hall
Hall Hall
or rename it as your postcode, just to confuse

rofl tmmj casa bevron
