Advice needed for Morning After Pill

Hi, I know this is probably the wrong side of Mumsnet sorry. I recently had sex with my partner & the condom split.

We definitely do not want any more children! I am besides myself here. I’m due to ovulate in 3/4 days. Will the Morning After Pill be effective if I take it first thing in the morning?

I’ve never needed to use one before so I literally have no clue if it’s effective a few days before ovulation.

Thank you xx

Its most effective when you take it as soon as possible, so get yourself down to the pharmacist in the morning.

Thanks for replying. I’ll be the first person there in the morning. I just don’t know if it’s effective so close to me ovulating. Praying it will be 😥

Take it as soon as possible but if you really want to make sure I'd suggest getting an emergency IUD fitted.
The MAP can be unreliable. Two of my children are condom split then MAP babies. It just won't work if you are in a fertile period of your cycle.. it doesn't matter how fast you take it.

@Fivepigeons I was hoping I wouldn’t need the IUD, now I’m really panicking. I am gutted, but of course will have to get the IUD if needs be. Thanks for replying

If you haven't ovulated your fine ... it only doesn't work during ovulation and after x

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls Checked my Flo app & not due to ovulate until 3 days, I usually give or take a day with ovulation. Hopefully that’s in my favour x

OP I would get am emergency appointment with female doctor in morning.

You will be able to talk through options and get some reassurance.

Worst case scenario would be if you were already ovulating, and after you have ovulated.

IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls · 02/01/2024 02:59

Two positives:

  • You haven't ovulated
  • You aren't leaving it ( some people leave it days before doing anything)

Dont let your mind run away thinking about what could happen.
Stick with the facts and with what you know, to help manage the anxiety.

@IfOnlyOurEyesSawSouls thanks for your calm advice. I’ve had the MAP, I should be okay the pharmacist said. Thanks again for reassuring me. X
