To hate NYD

Kitkat199 · 01/01/2024 10:31

I just hate it, all of it.
Resolutions are just a set up to being disappointed with yourself in a few weeks

Honestly can't wait for the next few days to be over.

Just don’t set any resolutions?

I used to hate NYD, too.

As a kid, it usually involved my mother ripping the tree down in a temper after an argument with Dad.

I don't put any pressure on myself, now. No resolutions as it's too much expectation and stress. I'm lying in bed still, had a cuppa, cat snoring at my feet. It's lovely and peaceful.

I'm thinking I might go and clear out one of the kitchen cupboards as I sometimes like that feeling of a clear out, but without saying "I'll do the whole house" then realising I can't.

Hope you can be kind to yourself. It can be a very melancholy time of year and hard to enjoy.

I love it.

In the words of a song, "its a new dawn, its a new day. And I'm feeling good" it's a new year, you don't have to change or improve.

No need for new year resolutions. Although I'm going to try to exercise a little more and buy no new clothes this year (except for necessary, socks, tights, knickers etc)

New years day here is a day to chill, neither of us were awake before 9am. I'm cooking a lovely roast dinner later with some turkey and ham pie that my vegetarian dh made earlier in the week. Then we may take a stroll over to our local pub.

No work, the street is very peaceful. I don't understand what's to hate.

Life is what you make it op. I hope you can find some positives in today.

I'm not keen on New Year at all. We barely celebrate it. Just a nod or two at midnight and that's it.

I never make resolutions. Why bother? I think some people seem to make the mistake of thinking you must be/have to be a different person on the stroke of midnight of New Year's Eve and as the cold light of New Year's Day dawn's. It's unrealistic, and of course you aren't.

margotrose · 01/01/2024 10:52

I love it - no expectations, no work, just a day to relax and chill without any stress or pressure.

I don't bother with resolutions though - I think they're a complete waste of time.

If you have the spare cash, go and buy a new plant or a bunch of tulips.

Or a bag of compost and plant some seeds for spring.

I love January and once the tree is down, I buy fresh flowers and start planting my Gaura seeds for the seasons to come.

I hope your day gets better.

I didnt have DS this year for NYE so intentionally said to his dad I would pick him up at 5pm so I could spend more time with boyfriend.

At 10am I was woken up, I suggested a walk as its the first sunny day we have had but boyfriend decided he wanted a day of gaming and I'm currently sat on my own in the house and will be going for a walk alone 😂

If I had of known that, I would have picked up DS earlier in the day.

Just try to find one thing for yourself to like, no pressure. I like the fact I have zero plans for today and will probably enjoy lounging around drinking tea until dinnertime.

I love it as it’s almost the end of a ridiculously long period of disruption and so called celebration. A new day, a new year and a new hope.

Peachyogurt · 01/01/2024 10:59

YANBU. I hate NY and Xmas. Social media, societal and familial expectations and the post covid era have ruined it for me.

It's a lovely, sunny day here and I'm just going to sit on my bed and cringe about the build up to this period. I had decided to make it big this year. Dress up for a few nights out, Xmas Dinner, go out NYE. Well, it was ALL shit! NYE was just slightly less shit.

I still feel the same I did a month ago. Nothing has changed like it's made out to be going into a new year.
