To hate the ‘congrats you made the cut’ posts?

Seems to be popping up on different social media, people doing a New Years clean up of their friends list/followers and then posting a message asking people to like/comment to stay on their friend list.Hmm

Why?! I never like or comment and yet they’re still there.

Do they do it for attention and don’t actually unfriend anyone? Then a few hours later you see a ‘congrats you made the cut’ post. Confused

If you are one for these people, please can you explain why you do it? Surely it would be better to just quietly unfriend/unfollow anyone you no longer want on your feed?

I haven’t seen this happen on social media since about 2010 and even then, it was basically something I only saw from 13-year-old relatives!

littlehorsesthatrun · 01/01/2024 10:23

Is it an MLM thing? They are checking who engages with their post to target them?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 01/01/2024 10:24

They sound like dickheads.

Æthelfled · 01/01/2024 10:30

Are people still doing this?

InSpainTheRain · 01/01/2024 10:30

I've seen a bit of a resurgence of this. If I get one I immediately block them.

AngelsandAliens · 01/01/2024 10:31

I have a friend who does this but on whatsapp , and we’re in our 40s , proper makes me cringe . I can say I know 100 percent does it for an attention thing off men that she wants to hear off but aren’t paying her attention.

Don't forget to say but you didn't first

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/01/2024 10:32

Christ, do people still do this? I always thought it was massively self absorbed when I used to see it 10 years ago. I don't really do social media any more because a lot of it is like this. Same as "you OK, hun?" and "looking good!" to the constant vague booking and selfie posts.

FourthToeOnTheRight · 01/01/2024 10:33

I haven’t seen posts like this lately but I have in the past, the ‘I’ve had a friend clear out, if you can read this you’re still on it’ - that sort of thing!

Always tempted to just unfriend these people, drama lamas!

369damnshesfine · 01/01/2024 11:14

Just comment underneath

Oh dear 🙄

Its funny because these attention seekers never actually delete anyone.

Teentrauma · 01/01/2024 12:15

Like others on this thread, I have to say I haven't seen this on my feed for at least 10 years (and it used to make me cringe then). I've found that (most) people on my feed are now a lot more social media savvy and tend not to post self indulgent rubbish (myself included). In fact, 90% of the people on my Facebook friends list rarely post, it's all ads these days.....

Willmafrockfit · 01/01/2024 12:16

i think i would unfriend if i had that!

tttigress · 01/01/2024 12:18

I only know one person that has done this, but I am 47.
