Easter Eggs!? FFS

VanityDiesHard · 30/12/2023 19:11

Sorry, I'm not normally one to bother about these things but I really think that having Easter eggs in the shops before NYE is taking the piss. At least wait until the first week of January! I know that Easter is slightly earlier in 2024 than it sometimes is (31st of March) but this is too much.

YABU Get over it, who cares!
YANBU WTF!?

I’ve been eating white cream eggs and mini eggs since the start of December- the shop down the road has been stocking them for weeks. Not full on Easter eggs yet though. I’m hoping to see some malteaser bunnies soon- disappointed with the lack of (full size and not mint) malteaser reindeers around this Christmas.

My local Asda has boxes of the reindeer (full size and not mint flavoured!) reduced to 32p. We must not be big on them round these parts (though I do like them!).

I hate it. It's just another way of pushing people to buy buy buy. It feels the year is so rushed, and every year it gets worse.

Thank you!! Finally someone gets the point. Honestly, so many people on this site are slow of thinking.

Slow of thinking because they aren’t bothered like you are? Maybe they just don’t care and can easily ignore them or maybe they like it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Flanjango · 30/12/2023 20:20

It's always been this way. I worked in a petrol station 30 years ago and we got our Easter delivery Boxing Day

Allthatglittersisntart · 30/12/2023 20:20

They are a year round indulgence really. Still I agree that the entire aisles are odd a day
after Christmas. They should fill them with ‘health ‘ food and alcohol free beer given the usual January resolution themes.

CornishPorsche · 30/12/2023 20:24

I'm never sure why people think this is a new thing.

I've been putting a Cadburys Creme Egg in my dad's stocking on Christmas morning every year since I was about 12 because it drives him insane.

So since about 1993!

Slow of thinking? Or perhaps more aware of their surroundings and the passage of time! This is not some sort of new phenomenon.

We've done the birth, so now it's the death's turn

Well it's actually the opposite way around 😂, these celebrations predate christianity. "Christmas" was Yule/Saturnalia (in Sweden they still call it Jól), and "Easter" is named after the Anglo-Saxon spring goddess Ostara. Back in the victorian age it was very common to tell ghost stories in christmas as this celebration was about winter, death, darkness,... And spring is a season of birth, renewal, blossoming trees and plants,..

DifficultPifficultLemonDifficult · 30/12/2023 20:31

I like it, I'm poor so I can buy something each week, instead of having a mad rush a couple of weeks before. I've been doing it for years so not a new thing.

Alwaystired2023 · 30/12/2023 20:39

Yes I saw the Valentine's Day cards today! And Easter eggs, are they still in date by Easter?! I'll miss both and be in the shops the day before searching for an egg I'm sure 🤣

TerfTalking · 30/12/2023 20:41

Well, we’ve had Christmas since the 1st September, so I am all for a bit of Easter, it’s a change isn’t it? 😃come 1st March it will be BBQ tools and hickory smoke pork loin chops.

idontlikealdi · 30/12/2023 20:50

Tesco express had them out on Boxing Day, been like that for years.

PlayMeOurSongOnGuitar · 30/12/2023 21:11

They’re easily ignored if you’re not interested. To call people slow of thinking, because they don’t see shops having Easter eggs out as a big deal, is just silly.

I’ll ignore the Easter egg aisle until the February, just like I ignore other things in shops I don’t want.

Everydayimhuffling · 30/12/2023 21:29

It feels like they are skipping things more though. Like it used to go from Christmas to Valentine's Day, but now it goes straight to Easter somehow. It does feel earlier this year, though I appreciate maybe I've just not been so aware of it before.

Ifailed · 30/12/2023 21:30

I'm already looking forward to mince pies in August.

FreshWinterMorning · 30/12/2023 21:32

I kind of agree. I know they want to sell them way in advance, but at least wait til after New Year - 2nd January onwards!

Also, who the F buys EASTER EGGS in clucking December? Confused I don't buy them til 3 weeks before. I buy about 12, and they would just be in the way for 4 months. (And probably melt/get broken/get eaten!)

chipsandpeas · 30/12/2023 21:33

VanityDiesHard · 30/12/2023 19:15

Who the fuck is buying them!?

its sometimes cheaper to buy a easter egg than a normal chocolate bar

Thank you!! Dear God some of these comments are moronic. Plus no wonder this country has an obesity problem. The way sugary junk is peddled all the time and we just all lap it up. So passive, so mindless.

Whilst I agree with you @VanityDiesHard - that Easter Eggs could wait til Jan 2nd or after.. calling people slow for not agreeing is a bit rude. Sad

I do agree about all the chocolate being peddled being ludicrous though! As you say, no wonder so many are obese!

Edited

It wasn't for not agreeing, it was for completely failing to see the point of why I objected.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/12/2023 21:42

I saw them on Boxing Day!

Flanjango · 10/01/2024 22:19

30 years ago I worked in a petrol station. Our Easter delivery came Boxing Day. It's always been this way. Just ignore and buy what you need/want when you are ready.

NImumconfused · 10/01/2024 22:33

They were in our local Spar the week before Christmas, complete with a big sign saying "Stock up for Easter!" - I hadn't even finished my Christmas shopping at that point! 😱
