Gypsy Rose Blanchard

So Gypsy Rose was granted early release and left prison a couple of days ago.

I’ve noticed really bizarre behaviour all over social media regarding her… people calling her ‘iconic’, making memes out of her, begging her to get TikTok asap. Basically acting like the whole thing is lighthearted entertainment for them.

I think she needs to be left alone and this is potentially quite damaging for her to come out of prison to. The woman must still be working through a hell of a lot of trauma and instability. It makes me feel really weird seeing all these posts on a big scale.

OP posts:

I'll save my tears for the guy she roped into this horror and who is rotting in the clink with no hope of parole.

whynotwhatknot · 30/12/2023 15:42

can youn imagine how messed up she is being abused like that-i know theres no excuse for murder but her mother was evil

hope shes looked after now

OldTinHat · 30/12/2023 14:14

I've just read she's married. Let's hope her husband is kind and supportive during her parole.

If he knows what's good for him.

Didn't realise the bf was that dangerous either tbh!

kittensinthekitchen · 30/12/2023 15:47

Is there a source for this other than the co-accused?

Has he admitted it? Or has he just been accused of it?

kittensinthekitchen · 30/12/2023 15:49

I agree with you OP

My teenager and friends are in the group of thinking she's an "icon" and a "queen" etc, so I had a very frank conversation with her last night about how, yes, Gypsy was abused, but that she will have so much trauma, and she's not someone that people should idolise. If the family she has supporting her are in any way sensible, they'll be discouraging her from social media and from courting the media.

SweetFemaleAttitude · 30/12/2023 16:07

about how, yes, Gypsy was abused, but that she will have so much trauma, and she's not someone that people should idolise

She is a survivor of parental physical and emotional abuse.

She committed a crime and has done her time.

I don't really think it's up to you to decide who people are allowed to admire or not admire.

dayswithaY · 30/12/2023 16:28

I’m not sure her mother can be called “evil”. She had a mental illness and obviously, Gypsy suffered as a result of that. The whole thing could have been avoided if someone had stepped in and noticed that there was nothing wrong with Gypsy and DeeDee could have been hospitalised and/or arrested. Lots of people failed Gypsy, not sure where her support network is now.

This reminds me of the Menendez brothers who shot their parents dead because they were being abused. They are now all over TikTok with young people campaigning for their release.

Strange to you, perhaps, but - as her parent - I think I'm exactly the person who should be advising my teenager about the reality of this woman's life and likely ongoing trauma, and making sure she considers the whole picture rather than worshipping someone based on a few social media posts Confused

MaryHinges · 30/12/2023 17:31

Gypsy who??

Abhannmor · 30/12/2023 17:33

The Menendez brothers killed their parents for the inheritance afaik.

If Lizzie Borden was around now she'd have her own channel. Selling ax related merch no doubt.

ChanelNo19EDT · 30/12/2023 17:36

I was also saddened for her that she has walked right in to a marriage with a man she 'met' while she was still imprisoned. Best case scenario he has white knight syndrome and won't support her properly to become more independent. It's just not what you'd have hoped for her. Her Father, step mother and half sister seem like normal people so it's good that she has them and I hope that she lives near them.

momonpurpose · 30/12/2023 17:48

I'm in the US and they are reporting constantly her every move. Buying shoes, buying a fast food burger. Her pleas to meet Taylor Swift. I don't think her recovery will go well being so in the public eye.

ChanelNo19EDT · 30/12/2023 17:50

She asked to meet Taylor Swift. That's so childlike. God love her. This is going to be an unfolding car crash. I hope she had some therapy in prison, so that she is at least partially healed?

35965a · 30/12/2023 17:51

I think fair play to her. She was a victim of torture. Reading what her mother put her through is heartbreaking. No wonder Gypsy felt the only way out was killing her mother. She was punished for her part. The guy who did it is being punished. Since he has learning difficulties he gets more sympathy than Gypsy from some people, but he chose to do it.

Should she be celebrated? Maybe not, but she’s got to make money somehow and a public ‘career’ is a way to make a lot. IMO she should never have been jailed but she’s served her time. I think people are allowed to be happy that she’s free now.

I always wonder about the doctors who did these things too. They’re as guilty as her mother.

DontListenToWhatYouveConsumed · 30/12/2023 17:55

The whole thing was fucked up.
If she can make a few quid (and get to keep it for herself) then she will and many won't blame her.
There will be a limit, people, especially in the USA, will get bored of hearing it. Compassion fatigue.

MaryHinges · 30/12/2023 17:31

Gypsy who??

It's literally right there in the thread title.

If you're trying to say "Who is this person?" try Google.

CatamaranViper · 30/12/2023 17:59

I'm pleased she's out and wish her every success. But I worry how she will cope with the real world. I really hope her husband is genuine. I fear not.

He was recorded admitting to it yes.

ISewISee · 30/12/2023 19:10

If you've got a few hours to go down a rabbit hole with the case, Law and Crime Network have a lot of the court videos on their youtube channel. There are always things that come up in these trials that do not end up being common knowledge as the media often glosses over some details in favour of the more juicy stuff.

I did hope for Gypsy and after everything that happened that she would quietly leave prison and go and live her best life privately after being trapped and abused in the way she was. But I fear that there may be some unscrupulous people around her encouraging her to do all this and parading her around like a circus exhibit from times gone by. Despite what she's done, she served her time and she's been given a second chance, and people in her situation often attract the most unsavoury people.

I wish her the best, I do feel she is being exploited.

OhmygodDont · 30/12/2023 15:13

Pretty sure I read somewhere her husband is a bit of a sort anyway. Not that she’s living with him anyway.

shes been fetishised or idolised since the day this hit the news.

Should she have got someone else to do her dirty work? No. But then again he wanted to do even more to her mother and she talked him out of it.

she’s already got a insta and a TikTok made before she left jail ready. She’s being followed by camera crews for her first new documentary as well as writing a book.

She's married?!?

ChanelNo19EDT · 15/01/2024 14:11

Sadly yes. She married a man who is the type to write to women in prison.. so, he needs to be needed, needs to be a Rescuer? Needs to feel significant???

Same dynamic all over again, on a less abusive scale.

Lalgarh · 15/01/2024 17:59

Her 1st boyfriend that she persuaded to murder her Mum was once caught w*nking for 9 hours in a McDonald's.

TAKE THAT Mr Darcy

ChanelNo19EDT · 15/01/2024 21:11

Wow, 9 hours i don't know if I'm shocked or appalled.

Psychoticbreak · 17/01/2024 18:12

Would he not have gotten burns on it after all that time?

I am just watching this now. Shocking it really is. Her mother was a monster.
