To want to know how to measure my own bra size?

Why is this a weird science unknown to women?

I’ve dropped a lot of weight quite quickly. It is mostly stress related and I really don’t want to discuss it with anyone. My bra size was 34f. I’ve no clue now. Maybe a 28 or 30 something. C?

Conventional measuring doesn’t seem to take into account for middle age droop.

Does anyone have any bra wisdom?

Boob and bust method. They have a website and very helpful Facebook group

Mumof1andacat · 29/12/2023 20:17

I stand corrected boob or bust

ColettesEarrings · 29/12/2023 20:19

It's not a weird science, there's a million threads. Long story short, measure your underbust in inches, that's your number size. Measure over bust - subtract the lower number from the higher. One letter per inch A,B,C,D,DD,E,F,FF,G,GG,H,HH etc gives your cup size. Eg. 30 inches underbust, 38 over gives 30FF. Do not add inches anywhere.

Im 49 and I question whether this measuring method works for a woman my age? It definitely does when you are younger.

I second Boob or Bust method.

dementedpixie · 29/12/2023 20:24

I'm 50 and wear 36GG. I measure 37 under bust but like it snug.

I don’t have a miraculous middle aged woman’s bra measuring business btw! Step this way if you do!

Phone Bravissimo and they will talk you through it. They will also allow you to return bras if you are not happy with them

ColettesEarrings · 29/12/2023 20:44

It's a starting point, sister sizes around the initial measurements might be more comfortable. A snug back size often feels tight to begin with, and it's vv important to get the cup size right to avoid pain.

TwinklingLightsEverywhere · 29/12/2023 20:48

I tried the boob or bust because my fitted bras were so uncomfortable. I wore a 34EE, it said I was a 30GG. No way! Bought one, was soo tight on the band and seemed loose in the cup but after a few wears it's perfect.

I'd say try that and give it a good chance before you decide its wrong.

mooncloud1 · 29/12/2023 20:57

Definitely boob or bust, couldn't believe what it said but went with it and the size fitted perfectly!

MrBigsCat · 29/12/2023 21:08

I’ve just used the b or b method and they suggest a 30GG for me and I wear a 34DD !!
I'm interested to try a 30GG bra now

Here

https://www.fantasie.com/uk/en/advice/find-your-fantasie-fit/

you can book virtual fitting and as long as the bra hasn’t been worn it can be returned.

@MrBigsCat years ago pre-kids I used to wear 36C.One day I went to Debenhams and met absolutely fantastic lady who fitted me with Fantasie bra. Turned out I was 32F 😱.

The underwire should be extending to under the armpit and you should be able to scoop all the breast tissue into the cup. Bra underband should be opaque on the first hook, then you regulate it to other ones when the fabric stretches with washing.

Breasts come in all shapes and sizes, you should find the one that suits you best.

Fantasie bras are consistent in sizing, they specialise in them so there’s no difference between the same size and different model/colour.I’m not their sales person btw, I find their product consistent and good quality🙂

I treat bras the same luxury as bed mattress and shoes. A good fitted bra is a must.

@FrenchBoule just ordered 2 fantasie bras in 30GG!!

Wowzel · 29/12/2023 21:32

I used the boob or bust method, it came out as a 30H. I thought that was ridiculous so went to Bravissimo.... and got fitted as a 30H.

TheGrimSqueakersFlea · 29/12/2023 23:24

I tried boob or bust but it didn't work for me. Mine have lost a bit of filling and I've never found an online bra calculator that works.

I had more luck just ordering some and returning the ones that didn't fit

Jeanne48 · 23/01/2025 12:00

Congrats on the weight loss (even if stress-driven—hang in there!). Figuring out post-drop sizing is such a headache, especially with ‘life changes’ 😅. I’ve had luck with this bra size calculator (https://www.brasizecalculatorpro.com) —it factors in shape shifts better than standard methods. Gave me a shockingly accurate starting point after my own weight rollercoaster.

AnnaMagnani · 23/01/2025 12:11

Boob or bust gives you a starting point so you aren't still trying on 36B like it's the 1980s. But after that it's trial and error.
