NC as insanely outing!

So my BF lives and comes from a village on the continent near a city where there's the Eurostar. He's coming to visit me. I live in brighton and last time I got the train to St pancras to collect him but this time I just can't be bothered to do 3 hours round trip on a train!!

Am I being a total bitch?

In case its relevant he is early 40s, we lived together for 7 years before splitting geographically and he speaks no english

Is he expecting you to meet him?

Honestly, it wouldn’t cross my mind to meet anyone before they reached their final destination on public transport. No problem if you want a trip, but equally no problem if you don’t.

I’d add, get him used to not expecting you to do it if it’s inconvenient. Start as you want to continue.

C1N1C · 29/12/2023 19:12

Yep, he's put in many hours to come see you, I can see why you wouldn't want to return the favour and spend an extra three hours with him...

You sound like a shit girlfriend

Spudlover · 29/12/2023 19:22

He’s an adult who just has to get off one train and onto another at the same station. All Brighton trains leave from the same platform, it’s dead easy.

I wouldn’t collect him and he doesn’t collect you.

Woahyeahyeahyeah · 29/12/2023 19:22

I understand it's a mission OP, But in your place I would definitely go to meet him. In fact I wouldn't tell him so it could be a surprise! Think of it like, you get 3 extra hours with him by travelling together?

Alconleigh · 29/12/2023 19:26

It wouldn't occur to me to meet him there tbh! Clearly am heartless..........

Catza · 29/12/2023 19:27

Is he expecting you to collect him? You didn't say.
He may be perfectly comfortable catching the Brighton train and you are agonising over nothing. Please tell me you talked about it and it isn't another "we don't know how to use our words" thread.

Kittylala · 29/12/2023 19:29

Strange relationship.

purplecorkheart · 29/12/2023 19:36

If you are both broke can you even afford to travel to meet him or could that money be put to better use? My limited experience with trains to and from Brighton are that they are expensive and busy and I have never sat with my travelling companion (although they claim we had reserved seat). Surely there are apps he can download to help if necessary although I don't he will need them

TomatoSandwiches · 29/12/2023 19:41

If he doesn't meet and collect you then YANBU, if he does the YABU but understand sometimes you just don't want to and would suggest a cheap hotel in London like you've mentioned.

TeachesOfPeaches · 29/12/2023 20:02

If he has never been to London and speaks no English I would go and meet him as I would be worried.
