To think this is ridiculous

You didn't have a replacement for sliced bread? Really?

To think this is ridiculous

The subs have been ridiculous this week! Of course they had another type of white loaf! I ordered cranberry sauce and they swapped it for mint? I ordered a tub of ice cream and got no sub, as if they didn’t have another tub of ice cream!

If you rejected the ice cream, would they have had to throw it away?

Psyberbaby · 29/12/2023 15:58

Well I guess corned beef in brioche buns it is 🙄

@Favouritefruits
I know! Or brown bread? Seeded bread? Bloody gluten free bread? Any kind of bread really to go with the 10 other sandwich-oriented items they are bringing me...

I avoid this problem by going to the supermarket myself.

Yip

CremeEggThief · 29/12/2023 17:08

It's not as ridiculous as the time I was sent toothpaste as a substitute for a loaf of bread... Admittedly it was in the early days of online food shopping.

Me too.

NotmySundaybest · 29/12/2023 17:13

Which supermarket is this out of interest?

Psyberbaby · 29/12/2023 17:16

I feel I have to use online shopping as I font have a car which means I can't take advantage of special offers because I can't carry it all home

OP posts:
purpleme12 · 29/12/2023 17:19

Yes I also online shop as no car.

I have once had a silly message like this. It might have been about bread actually thinking about it.

Honestly just so weird.

But it was only that once

CyberCritical · 29/12/2023 17:24

Honestly, having been in a couple of supermarkets this week it's entirely possible. Really random stock issues where the whole bread section is decimated but they have eleventy billion extra crates of eggs or not a single bottle of washing up liquid but packets of loo roll piled to the ceiling. I don't do any online shops around Xmas/New Years, seems to be a roulette every year and it's easier to just go to the store and adapt your list as you're walking round.

LaughingCat · 29/12/2023 17:38

Oh god, this is why I can’t do online shopping. They once sent me mint bodywash instead of fresh mint and I never got over it. Make myself go out every other day to pick up shopping so there’s never too much to carry home. I’m knackered but still better than being triggered by fecking substitutions 😂😂😂

Sadza · 29/12/2023 17:42

Yep, I ordered coconut milk to make curry and got coconut shower gel.

Actually I would have preferred no bread to the gluten filled sub I got just before Christmas. I can pop to the local shop and get a loaf of "normal" bread, it might cost more than the supermarkets but at least I could have got it. Gluten free is a lot harder to source other than the supermarkets. So it was no bread for me over Christmas.

Purplecatshopaholic · 29/12/2023 17:46

This is why I don’t use Tescos online - tried twice and they were shit! Sainsbos are generally ok I find.

Here's a medal for being superior to those of us who need to use online shopping. 🏅

Ocado!

OP posts:
Hillarious · 30/12/2023 08:16

@rosesinmygarden Not superior, I just live close enough to the supermarket to be able to cycle there and that’s how I avoid the problem highlighted by the OP. Occasionally they don’t have exactly what I want so I'm then able to choose my own alternative. The main downside is that if you pick the wrong time to go, all the pickers going everyone’s online shopping get in your way with the large trolleys.

That's really not helpful, now is it?

OnlyFannys · 30/12/2023 10:53

It drives me mad when they do this, they did it was instant coffee to me not long ago. Like you don't have any other coffee in the whole store?

JMSA · 30/12/2023 10:57

I got the same with handwash the other week. I don't believe for one minute there wasn't more than one variety of handwash, in the Tesco superstore that the shopping comes from!

God, and coffee like bread is one of those "give me any possible version but I NEED IT!!!!" items

There are lots of reasons people can't go to the supermarket themselves. I've had two lots of spinal surgery recently and just can't do it. Plus I have an autistic child that doesn't really enjoy busy supermarkets.

But jolly well done to those of you who are far superior and can go and squeeze your own loaves. The rest of us can only dream.

I know OP it's utterly maddening - as if there isn't a loaf of any type of bread at Ocado. Mind you I ordered some breaded cod from Tesco a few months back and got a bag of frozen oven chips 😂
