Finger lump

Hi I've name changed

I've got a lump growing inside my finger and not sure what I might be. Any advice welcome. Sorry just posting for traffic, my mother in law has suggested it could be a tumour but I cant get a doctors appointment til the new year and I'm starting to freak out a bit so posting here. Photo below.

Having taken photos it doesn't look like anything. It's on the first knuckle, shows white in the first photo and the side profile is supposed to show the lump. Its growing daily and is not sore. It is firm.

Could be a small ganglion cyst? I have a huge one on my wrist. They are harmless. But maybe get it checked out just to be on safe side. Its probably more likely to be a ganglion than a tumor.

Ganglion cyst? Try hitting it with something heavy

MummySS22 · 28/12/2023 23:15

This is mine. A ganglion cyst, common on joints such as wrists, fingers etc.

Oh, that looks like a bone spur or as Mummy says, a ganglion.

I wish I had the balls to hit mine 🫣

MadamVastra · 28/12/2023 23:16

Don't be hitting a bone spur though 😂

might sting a bit

Sweep79 · 28/12/2023 23:17

Pretty sure this has been frowned upon since the 70s 😆 (whacking it)

Sweep79 · 28/12/2023 23:18

A bone spur is very different to a ganglion. I think the former is often caused by friction or trauma.

Teenagersscarethelivinshitoutofme · 28/12/2023 23:20

I had a ganglion cyst and my mate ( in lieu of the Bible which is apparently traditional) hit in with the biggest book available which was the Oxford English dictionary. Hurt like a fucker, but did the job. (Alcohol was involved). Never came back.

AbsoFrickingLuteley · 28/12/2023 23:21

This feels hard like bone though, it doesn't feel like fluid etc. I've never heard of a ganglion cyst so I've googled and it says it's fluid filled? This feels harder than that but maybe I'll try and hit it with something!

If you can move it, it's ganglion if you cant move it and it's more solid its probably a bone spur.

Yes it is fluid filled, bit they do feel hard like bony, I hav one as seen in Pic I've attached and it does feel boney.
Don't hit it. It will really hurt and it may get infected.. hitting it is an old school remedy and not recommended anymore.

Sweep79 · 28/12/2023 23:24

My ganglion is so hard I thought it was osteoarthritis until I had it checked.

1vandal2 · 28/12/2023 23:24

Do not hit it! Go to the gp if it is causing you pain and loss of function they will refer you to the hospital where it will be xrayed and extracted with a needle

Sweep79 · 28/12/2023 23:25

Mine doesn't move. It depends on the location.

ChedderGorgeous · 28/12/2023 23:25

The power of christ compells you to hit it with a Bible

boatyardblues · 28/12/2023 23:26

It could be a myxoid cyst, or digital mucous cyst. my.clevelandclinic.org/health/diseases/23456-myxoid-cyst

Mine really hurts all the time and aches and my GP couldn't care less lol

olympicsrock · 28/12/2023 23:27

ganglion

Sweep79 · 28/12/2023 23:28

@1vandal2 Can I ask how you got it aspirated? My GP said they don't have the funding unless they can prove it's on a nerve and 'excruciating'. Then they can apply to a panel. 😟

boatyardblues · 28/12/2023 23:29

Our GP said they don’t drain these cysts anymore without good reason because there is a risk of infection tracking back into the joint/bone.

1vandal2 · 28/12/2023 23:29

I also had a large one on my wrist that i had extracted, it did refill but popped on its own WITHOUT help as the integrity was compromised and hasn't come back 5 years later.
My arm, wrist and hand ended up constantly painful as it was pressing on nerves and caused swelling and i couldn't close my fingers to my palm without excruciating pain. The doctor was shocked on looking at the xray that there was no actual trauma cause from how bad it was.

1vandal2 · 28/12/2023 23:30

It was obviously awful from the fact of my forearm, wrist and hand was more than twice the size of the other 🙈

BlackJumpsuit · 28/12/2023 23:33

I had a ganglion cyst on one side of a finger joint for ages. It was hard and didn't move and eventually just went away. It was annoying but not painful.

Scutterbug · 28/12/2023 23:42

I had a ganglion cyst on my hand. Felt hard like a bone. Unfortunately when psychotic I convinced myself it was the government tracking me with a microchip and I tried to cut it out…
