To just throw out most of the toys and start over?

I know this is my own fault but we are in a toy nightmare. Countless jigsaws with missing pieces, toys that have several different pieces (eg toy car transporter with several different cars but all of them all over the place and don’t know how to find them amongst the several thousand other toy cars.)

Obviously some toys will survive the cull but is it really awful just to throw most of them away and start over?

This is the unit, it is holding nerf guns and Lego currently. I’m on a long running series of decluttering threads and the toy room is on my list of main aims currently. Kids well into teens now so I need to get them to deal with the mess of school books, books and Lego that is in there.

It was a very long time ago I think it might have been from Gratnells but think the IKEA trofast is the same principle

Some toys are best kept separate so they don’t have free access to them, like craft, jigsaws. You can then bring them out when you have time to do things with them. Others like cars, building blocks etc they have free access to as doesn’t matter if they get muddled up or a bit goes missing or broken.

If you can find the bits for the wooden puzzles then they will do for the baby when they get to the right age.

Do you have a partner, can he help with the clear up?

Maybe, be more specific with relatives with what toys you want, or if you are all overwhelmed with stuff set up bank accounts they can pay into, or ask for subscription to local attraction.

As they get older toys do get smaller and can be kept in their rooms.

How old are your DCs?

I have twins who are nearly 7, and plastic mountain was at it's peak at around ages 3-5. The whole downstairs of my house was dominated by towers of plastic shite. Only in the last maybe 6 months have I gradually began to re-claim my living room.
I promise the shit-heap of plastic doesn't last forever!
