Dark chocolate in chilli is a thing. In bolognese is totally strange. Worcestershire sauce or marmite on the other hand, great addition.

AppleDumplings · 27/12/2023 19:39

Galaxy??? No!! But I do throw a few squares of seriously dark chocolate in.

TomatoSandwiches · 27/12/2023 19:39

I'm not sure you can confidently call Galaxy bars actual chocolate, either way chocolate doesn't belong in ragu.

FionnulaTheCooler · 27/12/2023 19:39

I tried the square of dark chocolate thing once, it's meant to counterbalance the acidity of the tomatoes or something. I wasn't a fan.

fishonabicycle · 27/12/2023 19:39

I think you are possibly mistaken? I put dark chocolate in chilli - are you thinking of that perhaps?

BlueberryVelvet · 27/12/2023 19:40

My Italian DH almost vomited in his mouth when I read that to him.

If your bolognese needs chocolate you can’t cook properly.

HappyHamsters · 27/12/2023 19:40

A teaspoon of sugar balances the acidity

Galaxy is amazing. On its own.

Orrrr you cook it long enough to counter the acidity of the tomatoes.

TomatoSandwiches · 27/12/2023 19:42

You only need sugar if your tomatoes are shite, good tomatoes and sweet carrot in your sofrito is all you should need for sweetness.

Well I'd heard of it in chili, but MIL swears by it. had a heated discussion after one too many drinks yesterday!😅

I have just googled and there are mentions of either a small amount of dark chocolate or cocoa powder in spaghetti to darken the sauce. Definitely not galaxy!

Morrisons00 · 27/12/2023 20:59

hell'l no

Pebbles16 · 27/12/2023 21:00

A vomit from me

flowerchild2000 · 27/12/2023 21:03

It's a thing in mexican mole too. (if you haven't made this, please do! it's perfect for cold weather) It's upsetting to hear it's going into a bolognese but...if someone enjoys then I'm happy for them.

ohtowinthelottery · 27/12/2023 21:08
