Hot ankle

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/12/2023 17:07

Asking for a friend who is on hold with advice. She hurt her ankle, bruising etc. that went down. Now her ankle is swollen and a bit hot. A&E? Stay on hold? GP?

Any clue anyone? I think hot and swollen is bad form reading here.

Minor injuries; or PRiCE overnight and see how it goes. Assume she is on hold to 111?

She is.

If she's not prohibited from taking it due to a medical condition, then she can take ibuprofen for the pain. It's an anti inflammatory so will also help to reduce swelling. If the pain continues to be bad then she can combine it with paracetamol.

When & how did she injure it? Can she move her foot?

MrsTerryPratchett · 27/12/2023 17:25

She can move it. It was a while ago because the bruising is almost gone. She's worried about clots.

I work in A+E, if it helps we happily see this sort of thing there although if you can find an open minor injury/illness unit that would be more appropriate and usually the wait time is much quicker than A+E. They will be able to rule out any concerns of fractures/infection/blood clots.
