Am I being a grinch?

I find Christmas so exhausting. The pressure of it has made me sick. Our mortgage has doubled this year and my husband and I work full time jobs with young primary school aged children. We can't afford the stuff we want let alone spend a fortune on presents.

Fil is old fashioned and is catered to constantly. He doesn't do anything and is like a big baby. Mil explains that without women, Christmas wouldn't exist. I refuse to be that woman. She has been sick most of December and doesn't see that stress makes it worse.

Am I just being a grinch/tight?

You should have the Christmas you want/can afford. Don’t enter into conversation with people like this.

In all of the scenarios I can think of between my family and friends, Christmas wouldn't exist without the women doing what they do. But it's all by choice, all of us women in my family/friends circle all love the build up, the buying, wrapping, and so on. My DH helps prob more than 50/50 with all the cooking but I generally do all the rest, by choice. I'm happy he's happy.

It doesn't make you a grinch or tight if you don't want to or can't do this, it's a choice if you don't want to, and not really your choice if you can't!
