I did post this in health but no replies.

keen to hear from people who have had a locked facet joint in the spine, what the treatment was and how long it took to recover, any side effects of treatment?

I used to regularly lock one of my thoracic facets, a physio on my team would manipulate my spine. Nowadays I use a tennis ball, either when standing against the wall with it over the joint or laying on the floor. It takes a bit of practice to firmly apply pressure to the facet.

@JenniferJupiterVenusandMars thank you! Did they do a high velocity thrust or something else? Was one treatment enough? I’ve been recommended an adjustment and I’m scared.

I’m not sure what the manoeuvre is, it gave immediate relief! I had it done several times over a couple of years. Mine’s caused by tension, my muscles would be too sore to even tolerate massage.

I have had a locked facet joint at the top of the spine. It was combined with a couple of other problems including a bulging disc. I also have scoliosis so a lot going on.

My physio treated it with spinal manipulation- it took about 6 weeks in total but, because of the disc, I think she had to be a bit more gentle than she might have been.

Thanks both.

I have been given the option of slow mobilisation work of the soft tissue or one quick crack.

mines my thoracic spine too, I feel like there’s a knife in my back. The muscle spasms have died down now but my rotation is very restricted due to tight muscles (had this before the locked facet) and just don’t know what to do for the best. Initially with the spasms it was referring into my neck as well.

physio, osteo or chiro?!
