Wide awake here, cheers peri

And I think I may be the only person who's done 0 food prep. It'll just get done today!

I’m at DM’s house for Christmas. We also do Christmas Eve celebrations too.

I’ve helped prepping sprouts, vegetables, made a potato dauphinois and also a trifle. Stepdad likes doing turkey and gammon ham in port with orange and cloves (Delia Smith recipe).

I’m fairly lucky because though I’ve done Christmas at my house a few times, parents both prefer to be at their house, which is nearby.

Catza · 25/12/2023 09:47

I haven’t. It takes me 40 min to do the prep. I am going to start 2h before dinner. We don’t eat turkey and have two ovens so this makes things very easy.

ManateeFair · 25/12/2023 09:51

Depends what mean by prep really. I made a dessert yesterday. But I certainly haven’t been chopping veg or parboiling potatoes or anything like that!

Norugratsatall · 25/12/2023 09:51

No prep done here. I'm enjoying a second cuppa while DH is chopping veg in the kitchen. DD2 still asleep! Only 3 of us this year as DD1 now lives and works abroad so no rush and it will be a very chilled day. Merry Christmas all! 🎄

bananaboats · 25/12/2023 09:54

No prep here either but we are having steaks for dinner!

HAF1119 · 25/12/2023 09:55

I never prep anything.... literally just peel stuff etc as I cook... I've never prepped to be honest!

Mumof2teens79 · 25/12/2023 09:56

I boiled my ham and wrapped my pigs in blankets. The rest will be done today.
Eldest DD is currently peeling spuds.

Floralnomad · 25/12/2023 09:58

We had a Christmas dinner yesterday and I didn’t decide to do it until I got back indoors with my food order from M&S so definitely no prep done . It was very nice as well . Merry Christmas everyone 🎄

gingercat02 · 25/12/2023 10:00

I'm still in bed! Did the gravy, stuffing and bread sauce yesterday but forgot the trifle.
Only 4 of us and we don't eat until about 4pm so we'll be grand.

This is actually a brilliant idea.
The best prep to taste ratio going.

Because the reality is, yes, one 'can' make a roast very easily, with shop bought things. But it doesn't taste very nice. And a roast can be absolutely delicious, but only with a huge amount of effort.

A decent steak, chips with a homemade peppercorn sauce is 10 mins prep for really really good food!

Hbh17 · 25/12/2023 10:18

I put wine in the fridge. That was it.
We don't eat Xmas dinner, and I have never cooked "a roast" in my many decades of adult life.

We will have smoked salmon, pate, snacks etc today - zero prep needed, and no fuss - perfect! I would happily have beans on toast rather than all the faffing about some people seem to take on.

Grinchwithlove · 25/12/2023 10:30

Pot noddle for me.

theduchessofspork · 25/12/2023 10:33

We did it yesterday and laid the table but that’s because we have 11.. it’s not compulsory at all

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 25/12/2023 11:03

It's not that much effort, it takes elapsed time (with plenty of breaks). Good ingredients and timing are the main things.

wildthingsinthenight · 25/12/2023 11:05

We're having it delivered !😉
I had a big operation end of November and not up to it all. Barely out of bed .
Husband and mum are in charge of all the reheating.

Pigeonqueen · 25/12/2023 11:09

I find it really interesting reading how much effort other people put into everything. There are 4 of us for lunch and it’s basically a normal roast dinner for us with pigs in blankets so I don’t need to do much! I use bistro gravy, ready made yorkshires, stuffing etc. We’re all different and I guess if we had a huge family we might feel differently but the thought of slaving away for hours for something that’s eaten in 20 mins is a no thanks from me. We’re all about the chocolates, special snacky crisps etc.

Pascha · 25/12/2023 11:09

Nothing done here. Kitchen table is covered in nerf guns currently. Dinner is beef Wellington with dauphinois potatoes and veg. The only thing to prep is the veg as everything else was just ordered.. We won't eat til 5ish so for now I am eating Toblerone and coffee and ignoring it all.

GingeNinga · 25/12/2023 11:13

I haven’t prepped anything, heck I’m still in my dressing gown and not even grabbed a shower yet. Nor has DP and were meant to be at the in-laws in under an hour for me to start cooking ready for a late lunch. Will totes be a late lunch now!

BlowDryRat · 25/12/2023 11:14

I outsourced all the prep to Tesco. Foil dishes are going into the oven at timed intervals.

Simonjt · 25/12/2023 12:49

Still not started here, i’m going to start the potatoes in a minute, we’re eating at 3:30pmish, so I have two and a half hours, plenty time.

ErrolTheRednosedDragon · 25/12/2023 14:16

Dinner cooked, eaten (and very nice it was too, though I say it myself ) and cleared up - well, first dishwasher load about to start.
Cheese and biscuits, mince pies and fruits for tea.

bellac11 · 25/12/2023 14:18

We're meant to be eating at 4, I havent even peeled the potatoes!!!

bellac11 · 25/12/2023 14:20

It still feels like morning to be honest.

Crooklodge · 25/12/2023 14:24

I boiled the turnip for my soup last night, those fuckers are brutal to peel and chop. Forgot to take the kids malteaser pudding out the fridge, hope they're hungry at bedtime as it needs 6 hours to defrost.

Poppyseason · 25/12/2023 14:38

Nothing done not even baking. We've had back to back virus' for a month. Everyone is so poorly and asleep. I think I will try to do dinner on Boxing Day if I can muster it.
